Lobster, are you the only one not getting the clearly labelled "Quickpet 4alpha2" at the top of the window? Could it be a bug in your gtk theme? A bug that you have eaten?
:)

I believe it is the notorious ID-Ten-T Error
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID-Ten-T_Error
It is also possible that as Puppy official scapegoat
Bugman has resurfaced we can blame him . . .

As already mentioned I reinstalled the alpha and the alpha program name appeared
and tried (am now running) the 4 beta of Firefox.
In the previous Firefox 3.6.6 in Lucid, if I used the scrollbar to scroll, the image would sometimes not refresh but scrunch up and duplicate.
It worked OK with the scoll wheel.
The Beta has cured this.

Using the 5.2 base is working out
yesterday I used the gFTP program, installed and used Transmission from petget - I just can not get Pctorrent to work
-neither of the pretend to be another torrent program were recognized as protocols by the Ubuntu I tried and failed to download with pctorrent
- could be another ID10T error . . .
Transmission - no problems
Menu/Multimedia/Multimedia/Pmusic is displaying 'boxes'
as part of its name - things I am sure being reported and fixed . . .

I am very much looking forward to Jemimahs IRC chat client :)
Ayttm works for just IRC chatting but (for example) clicking on
a link crashes it

One of the things in Wary is the youtube downloader
It did not work in the previous Lucid
maybe it does now?

Yesterday in Ubuntu maverick 10.10 I got my USB camera to work
Any way of testing in Puppy Luci/Lupu/Maverick/5.2/luci-230/Puppy official base (all same thing guys)?

Oh how I dislike the Complete Configuration Wizard.

Why can't we have a keyboard and country setter alone ?

Video resolution is set fine at first run, then run the complete configuration to set country/keyboard and chaos ensues, resetting the video resolution again it always goes to right resolution but moves drive icons, desktop icons and loses tray !

=====

It appears there has been a change to way the TZ is handled again so Psync is incorrectly reporting. I will take a look at it.

timezone issue

Join the discussion on the First Run Dialog, tasmod.

The timezone issue comes both from the 2.
The first one is what I already posted.
On lupu, /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit does not call rc.country, places /root/Startup/settime instead.
I wonder why it did so.
If there are any trouble with rc.country of woof, we can modify it.

The second, the recent woof sets the TZ variable in the rc.local, but it will be lost when the X starts.
I am puzzled why. I add the code for the TZ in the /etc/profile on LupQ.

You(tasmod) are aware of the TZ problem and issued the Psync Version 1.2.
The new version is now in the Luci-230 and seems correctly show the current Time Zone.

TimeZone and 5..2 Base:
:
It's not good..
I used Europe/Paris and 'local'. It displays 10 25 and not 12 25
rc.sysinit and rc.country ? (see shinobar post)

Cheers

Wbar is not giving me an option to hide it when not in use.
When I had it installed in Puppy 5.00, it would autohide and appear when I moved the mouse pointer to the top of the screen.
Also, Google Chromium does not seem to let me increase font size in it separately from global font size for luci.

shinobar,

sorry I misled you, it's not the TZ handling that has altered to cause a problem, it's the way the time servers report back after setting the time that has changed.
This is reported onscreen in my program after setting the time but now it needs changing to suit the report back....

This applies to 5.11 as well and any other Psync version.

Updated Psync to version 1.3 to accomodate the text change in the server report.

This also applies to any other Puppy version that uses Psync.

Pet available in Additional software/system section of forum.

Wish it did for me tasmod  :( , three out of my four test and work boxes need the CCW to be usefull.

Although Barry's latest (wary090) has fixed it for two of them (last troublemaker is yet to have it installed as it is at another location). Hopefully when in it's added into woof my troubles will go away.

A quick question: playdayz, do you have any plans to make a retro flavor of 5.2?
Iguleder, No. No use trying to do what Wary already can do better.

Are you thinking of a Squeeze retro/legacy?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

BTW, I just reduced Pidgin 2.7.1 from 14MB to 8MB by the simple expedient of removing 22MB worth of locales. I personally don't regard locales as "bloat" but 22MB seems like a lot. Anyway they could be put into a pet for those who want them. 8MB is still too big probably but it's a start to having a full-functional Chat program.

We should have the best of both worlds for 5.2, I think, unless I am missing something.

No, but I want it to have two flavors from 010 and on - one with the LTS 2.6.32.x (which is also used by Debian Squeeze and Ubuntu 10.4), patched to appear as 2.6.32 so kernel updates can be rolled in silently without any difference to the user :)

The second with the kernel you use, Barry's 2.6.35.7, but if I dislike it too much I might compile my own. I already did that once but then you mentioned Barry's intention to do that too and I decided to leave the kernel work to him.

I'm waiting for someone to take over Squeeze, I think it's time for me to retire and be a kernel guy, bug killer and packager ... maybe once 010 is released. I'm out of cool ideas.

It installs and operates fine on other Puppies but not on luci230.
I'm running 5.1.1 now with Java.

There is a luci-231 posted.

It has Shinobar's 8d4 first-run dialog
Iguleder's repaired cpu_freq-scaling that works for quad core
And Openbox and fbpanel as default.

My thinking is that openbox is receiving more and more diverse development., plus jwm has several problems we have discovered.

As long there is a sfs for pidgin, it doesn't matter that all locales are included.
Well yes I am speaking in case of a frugal install.

sfs install pet

#40 Post by scsijon »

@playdayz
there is already a simple sfs installer pet in the system from dejan555 (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 61&t=40779) called sfsinstall-0.1.2.pet, Once installed, it appears as part of the right-click menu on a xxx.sfs. Is this what you are looking for?
