Subject description: Lightning - which has replaced Sunbird Calendar

EDIT: They now have a newer Lightning 1.0b2 posted ... but see this:
If you are using Seamonkey, please also use the older Lightning 1.0b1. This release doesn't support Seamonkey, but the next release will likely do so again.
For some weird reason they never mention Seamonkey, only Thunderbird, but on this Weblog
http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/calendar/2010/01/lightning_10_beta1_now_availab.html
it does state that it is Seamonkey-compatible and one of the folks on the seamonkey support list says he has been using it.

"Lightning now supports SeaMonkey 2.0 as a host application"

Here is the download site:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/lightning/download.html

Here is the info about system requirements for Lightning:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/lightning/system-requirements.html

Quote:

Software Requirements

Please note that Linux distributors may provide packages for your distribution which have different requirements.

* Linux kernel - 2.2.14 or higher with the following libraries or packages:
o glibc 2.3.2 or higher
o XFree86-3.3.6 or higher
o gtk+2.0 or higher
o fontconfig (also known as xft)
o libstdc++5
(Many modern Linux distributions only package libstdc++6, which is incompatible with Lightning. Therefore please install the package "libstdc++5" or "compat-libstdc++" on your system before installing Lightning)

BTW: Mozilla Sunbird is there but the site says it has been replaced by Lightning but neither addresses compatibility with Seamonkey. Anyone using either with Seamonkey? Sure would be great to synchronize calendars between my two computers.

I've updated seamonkey to 2.0.8 in the petstore.

If anyone wants to help with the petstore - PLEASE volunteer.

I don't really have time to do a good job with both development and package maintenance.

I could try but my endless questions might make you cry ... Wink

Subject description: gxine & mp4 in Fluppy

gxine is generating the demuxer error in Fluppy when I try to play a mp4 video file.

Is there a simple fix or do I need to use a different app?

I do have VLC loaded but it complains that the codec is "undf".

WDYT?

If you start gxine from the command line with 'gxine -v' and they try to play the video, it might tell you something useful.

Does it play in ffplay?

The vlc lite that I have in the Fluppy install from a few weeks ago
will play dvd and video files fine in that version.
It won't in this latest version.
Gxine needs a maximize button and a way to escape from full
screen.
FFplay does video files very well.

The cpu temp is missing from tray in this latest.

gxine from console generates multiple errors.

ffplay and VLC both generate a mass of garbled video and speeded-up audio that is just screechy.

The Netbook will be unavailable to me until late Tuesday, so I will have to wait to fix this, unless I can do it by sending instructions via E_mail to the family member who is borrowing it for a trip.

My Netbook NB30 is home Smile

Any new ideas re. playing a mp4 via ffplay, gxine, or vlc, please?

I noticed last night that I could not play videos on the http://veetle.com site, it says something about a download that looks MS-dependent.

I can view the public-domain movie feed there on my other Puppy laptop with VLC.

Anyone get this to work with Fluppy, please?

Perhaps all of these video problems have a common source on my Netbook install of Fluppy 005?

Here's how the dependencies work for media: ffmpeg->libXine->gxine/xfmedia/goggles.

So if something won't play in Ffplay, it has no hope of playing in any of the Xine-based media players. If you run ffplay from the command line - it will often tell you what the problem is.

Vlc is it's own thing - it don't really know very much about it, but running it from the command line is likely to produce helpful output as well.

Fluppy006 is coming soon with xfmedia and gxine recompiled, I'm not sure if that will fix your problem or not.

I already have plenty of plates spinning and the multimedia stuff is not mission-critical, so I will wait on Fluppy 006.

Does it look like a few days for 006?

Sure appreciate Fluppy!

I like my little Samsung NB30 Notebook and Fluppy handles it well.

I've compiled the 2.6.34.7 kernel and it seems to work well - I'm just working on a couple more fixes for modems and such.

I found that the samsung hotkey driver was missing so hopefully that will also be an improvement in fluppy06.

I'm also planning on trying Nouveau again and see if it works correctly in the new kernel. The commercial nvidia driver will be pulled as it was causing fluppy not to work on older nvidia cards.

My patches to ssb broke the b43legacy driver, so those need to be rolled back. I'm not sure what that means for wl, but hopefully the the b43 driver is better in 2.6.34.

Thats good as it always tries to load that one first, but wont work(even though I have an nvidia chipset) and I have to wait to change to the NV driver. only a problem when setting up a new install though. Fluppy 5 is working great for me, Thanks Jemimah

Cheers

Hi jemimah, I have just tried fluppy05 and have discovered that my 3g wireless dongle will not connect. It works fine in fluppy04.
Smokey01, I examined the two diag files you posted and see that the fluppy 4 and -5 cases are not quite parallel. Specifically, in the "7" file the modem is already switched to modem mode, unlike in the "6" example. It is a fortuitous test of what I call the "vodaphone workaround", for modems not automatically recognized.

The script that handles that workaround appeared to do all the right things, but was flooded with invocations that might have messed things up. I have reworked that script as part of the new "modem fix pack 8". It, too, appears to do the right things but in a more orderly way. Other than the "flood", I do not know why the detection failed or ended up with ttyUSB3. But this is a start on the solution.

The update that should work for fluppy5 is here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=453041#453041
but you first need to install the pup_event_backend_modprobe_fix...-5.5 from the first page of that thread.

Looking forward to seeing the results. Thanks.
Richard

Jemimah, what modem fixes are you making? Are they ones I provided or something else that I should be aware of? You probably are not ready to take the upgrade I mention here. I would expect that a few users should try them before you commit.

I was going to install the fixes you PMed me last week, and then install the new fix. Is that the right thing?

I have 2 Fluppy full installs; 005, and 003 or oo4? Forgot.

Vlc lite plays mp4 files fine in the earlier install, but not with
005.

The little temperature icon in tray disappeared in 005.
