Puppy Squeeze 003 Development

#61 Post by Billtoo »

I downloaded 003 and installed it to a usb flash drive using bootflash.
I installed the devx and it does compile okay now.
I installed vlc-113-1,dosbox0.74,tunapie,fluxbox,moc,lxterminal,and
htop using the puppy package manager after updating debian repositories.

One big problem is no sound, it doesn't see my
Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller.
Also, vlc has to be run as user spot.

edit: I'm having fun with 001, I installed vlc to it from the ppm and it is working well, with sound too :)

Updated the frugal install on the old P3 test box to Squeeze 003. Sound worked out of the box this time. :)
Back to testing................

01micko: atm I'm working on ffmpeg. I'll try to make a good xine-lib too if it goes well :)
Installed 003 adding to xorg.conf

Code: Select all

	Option "TapButton1" "1"
	Option "SpecialScrollAreaRight" "true"
Option "VertEdgeScroll" "true"
Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "true"
gets touchpad tapping and scrolling working but throughs up another bug - on such as the Tabs View menu button in cosole for the menu to stay open a touchpad button needs to be held down or the menu imediatly closes, same thing from network tray aswell.

edit.
Deadbeef works nice
Transmission requires libevent-1.4 from package manager

cheers.

Report for all 003 Squeeze Agents

Shinobar, Jemimah and others offer a grub boot menu
with options such as pfix = ram on a
scroller) at boot up
- it still autoboots after 5 secs . . .
Is that better? A possibility?

Asked to probe my video resolution - simple enough set up
Auto connected to ethernet - me like
Changed time - default not even close

Prefer grey Lucid icon set used in 002 (small matter)

Chat - straight to IRC chat (using captcha) good
- need msn, yahoo etc - then meeboo available - simples :)

Quite happy to have Squeeze use same browser for help and
connection and that a fully featured browser (out of the box)
- two browsers was not an improvement for me
prefer one

mp3 worked straight out of the box (dragged mp3 into play icon)
- yeah baby!

Fatdog 64 browses as spot and downloads to a download
directory in spot (which you can move)
How easy to implement? Desireable?

Console is more powerful but low contrast defalt colour scheme = not good
Can the colour scheme be changed?

mention from Ttuxxx was made of a wallpaper viewer from HairyWill that displays the image - not suitable? Not implementable? Not there anyway . . .

Good to see gpic - was in dpup - very good program

Chrome-like GTK theme from dpup for dpup fans - me like

Puppy Dpup Squeeze
Puppy + Debian = woof woof

Like the colors and the prospect of smaller build - well done. :)

Can't wait for 004.

Lobster, is the guy Captain Dpup or Captain Squeeze?

I had a plan to do something similar to what shinobar did with his JP, some "safe mode" menu entry and a boot splash. I'm not very experienced with that, though ... can anyone work this out?

Yes, of course ... I just don't know where mrxvt's configuration files are. You can modify the PET if you like, send it back to me and I'll make sure it goes to 004.

I haven't tried it yet, but we can use it if you want. I'm kinda busy with PET packages, I'm compiling some goodies for 004 :)

EDIT: forgot two important things. Can anyone pull the JWM theme/wallpaper/wbar out of dpup 484? I can't download it for some unknown reason. I want to apply the same setup from 484 in Squeeze to see how the public responds :)

I was thinking of copying that SafeBrowse script from dpup that runs browser as nobody in /tmp and after finishes it wipes out all files. I't kinda cool, like private session but even more secure then spot. Maybe we can as well have 3 choices - run as root - run as spot - safe browse

Good idea. Make a PET with all required files, let's try it :)

Here's the requested Axel. Also made a new Flash PET but it's too big to upload.

And another thing: added a screeny of my proposed look for 004. Tell me what you think.

Is it possible to make a wbar pet with a launcher in /root/Startup, as I did with Parcellite? That could be great.

We could add a frame that asks you whether you like wbar to the first run wizard that simply removes the launcher and kills wbar if you don't.

Stu, that's normal, I have this menus problem too. Regarding the touchpad problem, I think we need to go over the Lupu thread, the Lupu guys had that too. I think shinobar fixed this.

EDIT: here's fbpanel.

EDIT 2: Asunder joins the party.

Iguleder before you get ahead of yourself if you compile apps with the extra gnome libs included very likely you'll package up applications with the extra gnome deps and hence they won't work later on, Its best to build/break the base first, and troubleshoot it, then go all crazy with themes and apps etc.

Lobster, is the guy Captain Dpup or Captain Squeeze?

Good question - I like to think of him as 'De Pup' (Pigeon French 'The Pup')
I just did it quickly in 003 and hope it will inspire someone to create a more professional logo - the lettering is not readable - just used an online logo creator for that then combined some images in inkscapelite
I was thinking of copying that SafeBrowse script from dpup that runs browser as nobody in /tmp and after finishes it wipes out all files. I't kinda cool, like private session but even more secure then spot. Maybe we can as well have 3 choices - run as root - run as spot - safe browse
Enclosed is a modified Growl (just rename from g11.zip to growl - it is a shell file) that allows you to run as spot, construct a tin foil hat etc
Maybe they can be combined in some way?

I did setup the network with SNS.
Next day I booted and the setup was lost.
I had to redo the setup (did choose again SNS)

xorgwizard doesn't propose keyboard selection in 003

#76 Post by Béèm »

Having a Belgian keyboard I have to run the setup from the first desktop.
I did so and got directly probe for X setup.
Even by typing xorgwizard I have the same.
To have my Belgian keyboard defined I had to do it via the menu.

That's intentional, mentioned it in the first post :)
You only need to choose the resolution and color depth in the ugly console, the rest is done graphically :D

Here are 2 friends - they remove the need for libmhash. Credit goes to ttuuxxx for finding ghasher.

libtasn is a must, needed for libgcrypt and therefore gnutls. Gnutls is needed too.

atm I'm trying to get rid of some libraries, already kicked out libexif-gtk and libgphoto2 with fotoxx, here it is. It replaces gtkam.
