AMD 3500+ on Shuttle 95 mainboard, 2G ram, ATI 9550 video, onboard Marvell Yukon 10/100/1000 ethernet adapter. Puppy installs and runs flawlessly UNTIL ethernet driver is activated -- at which point the system begins to stutter at about 4HZ. Mouse is jerky, audio playback choppy, etc. This does not happen until the eth0 driver is configured via the Network/Ethernet Wizard.
System is usable but very irritating -- cannot handle it longterm.
Don't know much about linux to be able to diagnose this, but can try things if suggested with very explicit instructions.
Thanks for Puppy -- a great complement to Ubuntu.

More Info
I have more info about this issue. Apparently it is local to my Shuttle XPC mainboard, some sort of bios problem. Info here http://www.bb-zone.com/index.php/A_few_ ... with_Linux
I do not have the skill to modify puppy to make this recompile change. What next_
