This is similar to a Flash related problem, that had been sorted.
I started using Midori - Midori just closed down on me. So that is out for me.
I have tried FF, Seamonkey and Opera. None can play videos from the BBC or Youtube for more than 15 minutes. This is a new pristine Puppy. What has changed since 510?
If others are viewing streaming media OK, then . . . well I am not sure . . . We need some more reports.
I am using Ubuntu to post this.
The shame of it! |
See if this will help you any.

I am running a movie and typing this at the same time. No problem in firefox 3.6.8.
What about this:

Purely for testing purposes, I've been running Youtube videos in Luci-219 on the old P3 (about half the time in fullscreen) for about 20 minutes. According to Htop ram usage has been pretty constant at about 112 mb w/ no swap being used.
Ultraviolet was pretty jerky but Youtube vids are nice and smooth.
EDIT: Been watching Youtube videos for over an hour....ram usage finally got up to 123 mb ......... everything seems fairly constant.

Only in Puppy Linux you can help development by watching great movies . . .
I could not watch Ultraviolet with Hula
| Quote: | | Sorry, currently our video library can only be streamed from within the United States |
I have 2 gig of ram and run from CD/DVD
and am using a 64bit Athlon
I am using an ATI 1 gig radeon card
BBC uses Flash
I could not turn off the hardware acceleration as Flash web site suggested
(the option was there but clicking on it did nothing)
This problem is in 4OD
Youtube etc and seems to be only on the full screen option
- gonna try another graphic card
to see if that might be the problem area
Thanks guys for your patience and help

What about this? If set, when you click left mouse button video is paused but nothing tells you. Press again it plays.

midori browser is working nicely the third bootup !
14 tabs opened !
no crash until now - had few crashes by hitting the tap-close[x]-button and one while opening a tab. But midori restarts nicely again -
so no statement of formal accusation against midori from my personal point of view !
watched the same YouTube vid again : but default size 320x240 : video played until the end of 30 minutes now
I`m having 2 HD with one swap partition each (no extended or LV swap on sda5 f.e.)
transferring data to swap is noisy like the creak and squeak of an aged frigate . But I like it (MWDMA2 16.7)
| Code: | total used free shared buffers
Mem: 385052 370188 14864 0 11464
Swap: 2273176 167252 2105924 |
I`ll change the disk order so the UDMA-100 drive becomes master
So it is really hardware related.

+1, me too, can confirm this
cheers

Don't you guys think, we should be talking about Firefox 3.6.8 and include Firefox 3.6.8 in Puppy 5.1.1 instead of Firefox 3.6.6 ?

I was able to watch 30 minutes of continuous Flash (normally would crash after 15 minutes) . . .
So it could be my ISP surreptitiously throttling my streaming
Would they do such a thing . . .
Not sure.
The thing is I was able to watch OK in Ubuntu Lucid . . . so not that . . .
The only thing I have changed is the sound card I am using - so maybe an IRQ conflict?
- Just too many variables
I would go ahead and release - everyone seems to be enjoying watching vids
Sorry for all the fuss

No worries. You have helped me realize something, that I was not practicing good software development methods. In addition to the different version of Woof, there was one other change that I thought would be totally trivial but now I realize it could have caused your problem--not sure at all, but I am back on track and there will be a luci-220 later today. Thanks.

luci-219:
resized personal storage file +128mb and installed Iron Browser .
It's the same as Google Chrome ?
Also tried to install Iron on 4.3 but it needs /lib/libc-2.7 +
4.3 has lib.2.6 ; I copied lucy libc-2.11.1 to 4.3 and changed the link libc.so.6 to point to it :
CPU went 100 % immediately, typing top in console gave Segmentation Fault
The rendering at the code-boxes here at the forum is as bad as at mozilla and chrome.
I think I'll stay with midori and opera !

Playing heavily with luci219. I succeeded to use pulseaudio to stream audio wirelessly through Apple Airport Express to my living room stereos in Ubuntu Lucid. Anykind of audio from netstreams to cd from any audio app. Better than in Windows where you can use itunes only for streaming.
So I decided to test what is situation in Luci219. Well ...all the pulseaudio stuff was relative easy. About 20-30 packages and some missing libs. But then...
Access is through user pulseaudio. I added most multiuser puppy stuff and got user pulseaudio, but there was missing a lot of other users and groups.
pulseaudio --help and I got pulseaudio to start as root at last. But then came access denied generated by dbus. I think there should be some pulseaudio-xxx user with right permissions to do something.
That was it. At least I was able to install all needed apps. Now it would need hacking the pulseaudio and my abilities are too low.

still Midori :
I`m getting closer to it's crashes :
Copy'n'paste from terminal or other browsers doesn't work as easy as it is at other browsers like Iron I`m typing in right now.
pasting by middle mouse click doesn't work .
so I need to paste urxvt output to geany first, select it, choose copy and paste it to midori.
Now I right clicked a link at Iron and have chosen Copy Link Address.
It was possible to paste the link address to midori at Post a Replay directly from Iron without using geany in between
but navigating with the direction keys to complete the '[ url = ]' tags led to complete freezing of midori ( cpu > 90 % ) ..
I killed midori from console and started it up again.
I really would think that this is somewhere in the settings or a small bug.

Karl, it is important to note that the Midori you are using is not suitable for secure browsing. If you want to use it more, install the version from here http://puppy-development.googlecode.com/files/midori_shared-2.2-93.pet
You will also need the libs in this little .pet
