It does take a bit more resources, but nothing really that much, I always try to keep it lite, That's why the 3 apps combined together, Rox for the desktop, Xfce for the taskbar and metacity for the window decorations. Oh ya I made a new Shutdown/logout screen for it also

Well its a totally different menu, Which is nice because when refresh the menus now after installing or removing a program, it only refreshes the taskbar, where as before it would refresh the whole window manager JWM. That way you can safely refresh the menus and do other thing like compiling or cd burning and not have to worry about the what if factor.darkstrike wrote:Sounds like I will have to give it a whirl on the old Aptiva
Maybe it'll fix that menu glitch that Sinc and I mentioned we periodically had!

You should get a usb 4 way splitter, They usually have them in dollar shops, and usb keyboards are usually $10 or less, maybe get one of each ?darkstrike wrote:I installed it no problems, love the new WM, but it seems the keyboard port on my old Aptiva might have died...and considering it only has one USB 1.0 port and I have no USB keyboards...

214X
Well I loaded manual frugal, it had a"poor" result with XORG and 1289 x 1024, where the frequency was null (ATI HD3650), BUT, it actually did show the desktop correctly !ttuuxxx wrote:any users results? Also I'll try to get some sort blinky/memory apps working tomorrow after work.

Miss the Blinky but see it is on the To Do list.
Also have had "senior moments" with the grub menu for this, if I add pfix=fsck, it occurs after log out, before shutdown. Also noticed that the default save file goes in "home" even though it loaded main SFS from a sub directory, and shows other save files in a sub directory to choose to load at start up. Didn't this get resolved in earlier versions? I want to think it did.
Looks and works quite well on my Intel Q6600 with 4 gigs, will step down through the processors that I am using since I have some of the newer and older stuff on hand. (Intel) Pentium D 805 2.6GHz, P4 2.2 GHz, Celeron 2.0 GHz, Celeron 400 Mhz and a P2 that I can not remember well, In the AMD world I have Athlon II X2 2.4GHz, Athlon 2200, Duron 1100, Duron 850 Mhz,

Fresh full install of 214x-top3 on the old P3 test box.I'm really beginning to like Metacity.
Upgraded Firefox to 3.6.8 (SimpleMail is disabled by the upgrade though) and Flash to 10.1r82.................appears to work fine.Haven't found anything that doesn't work yet so....................
Nice new shutdown screen too.

I know they're not too expensive, so I may give it a whirl if I can. My problem is I am in the midst of paying for some very expensive unforeseen car repairs ($2100 Canadian) and considering I am a student with an upcoming education practicum for 16 weeks where I will essentially be working a full time job and not be getting paid for it, money is pretty tightttuuxxx wrote:You should get a usb 4 way splitter, They usually have them in dollar shops, and usb keyboards are usually $10 or less, maybe get one of each ?darkstrike wrote:I installed it no problems, love the new WM, but it seems the keyboard port on my old Aptiva might have died...and considering it only has one USB 1.0 port and I have no USB keyboards...

To make things worse, I noticed that by some strange coincidence, the newer backup computer I have (1.6ghz, 512mbs RAM, 64mb Vid card, etc) also just had it's PS/2 mouse port die. I do have a USB mouse, but it's for my netbook, so I would have to get another one of those too.
At least my year-old main desktop and netbook are still working 100%!

Hmmm I didn't have a window switcher issue at all but you can kill it, Just delete /root/Startup/superswitcher and restart x. If that fixes it, I'll remove /root/Startup/superswitcher for the next release.

Yeah, I had never had this problem with SuperSwitcher before, in fact I didn't even know it existed other than noticing it in the process list in regular 2.14X RC5.ttuuxxx wrote:Hmmm I didn't have a window switcher issue at all but you can kill it, Just delete /root/Startup/superswitcher and restart x. I'll boot up another live CD and see if I can kill it from starting, maybe it'll help. I'll re-post later on tonight if it makes a difference for me, but I am still thinking there's a bit of a hardware glitch somewhere on the Aptiva...

I'm easy if superswitcher stays or goes, It was introduced into 2.14X just to give a function to the "Windows" key next to the alt key, but I never use it, plus it does take some resources.

Hello !
Long time, no news, and suddenly this....
I'm still using 214XRC5 as my main OS (>90% of the time), ............ and now I've been given a new toy .
I was also stuck in the endless desktop-switcher loop reacting on all key-presses. Did chmod 644 on /root/Startup/superswitcher, restarted X, and now my keyboard (IBM ps/2 w/ win-keys) works .
Also noted that included local locales included sv_SE .
Will take it for a thorough spin over the next few days ............
Did you make any changes to initrd.gz compared to RC5? Just wondering if there are changes that would be lost if I tossed in my custom initrd.gz from RC5.
Cheers /
