Stuck trying to install nvidia drivers in Lupu 5.1.0
If I select divers from quickpet and click on'test your graphic card',it identifies the correct graphic card and I can install the correct drivers.I've then tried to follow the procedure to load the new drivers,so far without luck.
The menu entry is there under the setup tab as it should be but when I click on it says driver has not been installed and must be run from the xconfig file.
How can I get it to run?

It seems like you used a driver from a wrong location. Try Quickpet and select and reinstall your driver, then it should remind you that it's going to a black screen and that you should select probe to find your new driver, then select the desired screen resolution.
You could also go to a prompt using the shutdown menu, then at the prompt run xorgwizard, select choose, type nvidia, then set desired resolution, then xwin to return to desktop.

At first sight you followed the correct procedure.
- identify the driver for your card
- select the one indicated (in your case nvidia) with the button below the check one
- then everything is automatic
One thing can go wrong, that you don't have enoughr space in the save file. You need a lot of space for this install.

Thanks for the reply's.
Still no luck and I've tried six times using both recommendations for the drivers in quickpet. Each time I reboot, the nvidia drivers don't function and the task bar is missing and I'm also unable to get a network connection or get it to recognize my network card.
When this happens I have to use a backup pupsave file to restore the settings.

What is the size of your RAM?
Do you use a swapfile/partition? If yes how big?

With 1GB of ram no swap is needed. It could slow down the PC.
Can you take a screen shot of this and post it here?
This is from your initial post and I don't understand it. I didn't have this.Brown Mouse wrote:The menu entry is there under the setup tab as it should be but when I click on it says driver has not been installed and must be run from the xconfig file.

OK I understand for the swap.
I know where the menu tabs are, I installed the nvidia 256 one in my PC Desktop.
There are 3 drivers for the different hardware. Which one did you choose?

I tried the 256 one, as said.
Please describe point by point what happens starting with selecting the version of your choice.

Hi Beem
Seventh attempt at installing nvidia drivers with the same results. This is the procedure I follow.
1)From 'quickpet' click to test graphic card
2)select driver 173.14.25
3)Download driver &click ok to confirm install.
4)Click yes to exit x windows system to Xorgwizard
5)Screen goes black and then automatically detects correct resolution.
At this point everything is fine but if I then start for example Google Earth,it says it cant detect the right driver to run and closes down.
If I then reboot I'm left with no task menu and cant get any network connection.
If I exit to Xorgwizard and use probe,I cant get x to start in any resolution.
If I use 'choose' option and type nvidia still the same and I'm also seeing these two error messages along the line.
Warning:Could not open init/kernel/drivers/usb/core/usbcore.ko
Fatal:Could not open initrd/kernel/driver/hid/usbhid/.ko
This is a tough one I think

Brown Mouse, always report the precise steps and information when you report a problem as you did now in the last post. Hope you take that advice for the future.
Now back to your problem.
Apparently you followed the correct procedure.
Maybe your PC can't handle it. You didn't specify the full specs of your PC.
You could first see the puppysearch link in my sig if you find a solution when searching on 'google earth in lucid'
And finally it's better to report this problem in the feedback thread opened specially by playdayz. You can take the last post for doing so. If you do so add the specs of your PC.
I know people have been successful running google earth.
I didn't try it, so I am afraid I can't much help further.

Yeah point taken Beem
However,it's not the computer specs which are at fault (although they are not the best).I run Windows 7,XP,all PCLinuxOS's without any such graphics
problems.
Google Earth ran before I tried installing nvidia drivers but it was slow and the very reason why I tried installing them.
Specs are:-
Pentium 4 dual core 3.0ghz processor
Asus P5QL/EPU Motherboard
!gb Kingston ram
Geforce EN 210 graphics card

The specs of your PC are better then mine with a dual proc 1.6Ghz, also 1GB ram and a nvidia 7650.
So as said, didn't try google earth.
The nvidia driver installed ok in my case and I have no problems running lucid.
So I think your chances are much higher if you post in the thread I indicated.
