./pmodemdiag
and attach the tarball to a posting or PM to the helper.

I would just like to report that one can't download Turbopup from the link at the first page of this thread. It gives a "530 Login incorrect." error.
The link there is ftp://puppyiso:puppyiso456@ftp.servage.net/turbopup_xtreme_v1.iso
I tried changing it for ftp://ftp.servage.net/turbopup_xtreme_v1.iso and setting up the username for "puppy" and the password for "linux" in wget but it gave me some error, if I remember well it didn't recognize the username (I tried again in Lupu now but it's giving me error messages in Slovenian or a similar language )
Is there another link to download it?

Odd install error? |
|
Hey all!
In the last week, I've been trying two different distros on my ancient Aptiva as recommended by CThisBear, the second of which is TurboPup. I had installed Puppy 2.14X RC5 and have been giving that a whirl, and it's not bad at all, but considering how minimalist TurboPup is, I was wondering if it would work any better!
Long story short, when I start my installation, during the install process, I have a number of windows that pop up from the Package Manager asking me if I want to remove certain packages...? Is there any particular reason why this is happening? I haven't touched the package manager, and it seems odd that it's asking me to remove packages from a LiveCD and a hard drive partition that doesn't even have anything on yet...?
Apologies if I missed a post somewhere explaining how to solve this glitch!

I wonder whether, when you've booted it, if it has "grabbed" an existing pup_save file from some previous pup version.

It can't there's only one partition and it's formatted as a completely empty ext2 partition?
Unless somehow it's grabbing something off the drive that wasn't completely overwritten in the format? No idea!

I have been using TPE as my only OS for some time now. Love it!
Is there a version 1.1 still in the works? Are beta testers needed?

turbopup wont boot :-( |
|
Hello All,
I d/l Turbopup last night, but when i try to boot it from USB, i get a message that says something like
No DEFAULT or UI configured
BOOT:
i tried puppy pfix=ram, but got another error message
Linux Kernel image puppy not found
i tried pfix=ram but got a similar message
Linux Kernel image pfix not found
Can someone please help? i am very eager to try Turbopup
PS: Puppy Linux 5.01 runs perfect on the same computer and i am delighted with it
EDIT: i used Universal USB Installer (from pendrivelinux.com to install Lucid Puppy 5.01 to make my USB a bootable one and it worked well. Turbopup is not an 'official' distro and i had to choose 'other iso' while installing to USB. This installer seems to have trouble doing the job perfectly for 'other isos'. Unetbootin did the magic, it helped me put Turbopup on my USB. Just wanted to share, so any newbies running into the same error messages can resolve it using Unetbootin.
Many thanks to all Synth and everyone else who put so much effort to give us such a nice puplet!!
I dint get enuf time to configure it, but Turbopup doesnt detect my wireless USB modem, have to try over this weekend.

So do I. I've just switched back to it again.

I'd like to know that too; a 1.1 (updated with all the latest software) would be a great idea.

Nice! |
|
Fast fast on an old PIII Gateway with 512mb. Got wireless working easily using one of the onboard modules with a Zyair b-100 pcmcia (orinoco_cs). Using about 29 mb at idle. Wouldn't mind the icons being a little larger though, and an easy way to add a couple pets for comfort's sake
Great pup, Thanks!

Chrome on TPE? |

Has anyone installed Chrome on TurboPup Xtreme v1.0? I've tried the most recent stable version packaged as a PET - it installs but won't run.

Not yet, but i'm going to try Iron and see how that goes. Iron is Chrome(ium) stripped of google spyware, there's a Linux distro now and i'm running it in Ubuntu, and it is way faster than Firefox, three times faster in fact according to Peacekeeper scores. I'll post when I have a result to share.
