I wonder if there's a bug/limitation in the init script that causes the size of the tmpfs to be sized wrong when the sfs file is that big.

I have the Seamonkey PET for Fatdog64 and will load it.

Right now Firefox is chattering about something called Namoroki (sp?) and suggesting an update -- will Seamonkey also generate some noise when we load your version for Fatdog64?

Sure appreciate the hard work -- it is running well on the ASUS Aspire 5535 laptop (usually a problem-pc) and our son loves it!

I was wondering about the size issue as well, except that the sfs that includes devx that does not work from the CD does work if it resides on the HD, and is found by the CD boot during the boot process and read from the HD. I will try making the sfs created with 4 extra sfs's included larger in size to allow for further testing of the size issue question.

I was wondering if only I am having a problem with the spell checker on this sfs and if not, how to make it work. Spell checking in oo has perennially been "dicy" in my experience. some installs work and some don't work it seems.

I made another sfs/iso/CD without devx but with 8 additional sfs files included:
audio-all-in-one-amd64-7.sfs
fd64-32bit-libs.sfs
hugin-2010.0.0-amd64.sfs
jre160_amd64-3.sfs
skype_static-2.1.0.81.sfs
wine-1.2-rc5-i486-4.sfs
xcas-0.8.6-amd64.sfs
go-oo_32_amd64-3.sfs

Following your procedure a new sfs file of 560 MB was created and a new Fatdog64-500-extra.iso as well. burniso2cd was used to burn the iso and the system was rebooted using the new CD.

The same problem happened while booting the CD after the sfs was copied to RAM as detailed below.

BUT copying the new sfs file to a pen drive allowed the CD boot to boot successfully ( it found the sfs file on the pen drive and used it ) and all ran very well.

Also, booting via grub in the MBR of a pen drive with the sfs and other files copied to the pen drive booted nicely as well.

SO, as far as I can tell it is a size issue while booting solely from the CD. I was concerned that it might have been a devx associated problem, but now it seems not so.

ERRORS REPORTED:

Only snag is I can't see a recent Thunderbird.pet Having a crack at making one but came unstuck with the absence of some libraries - wondering if someone who built firefox or seamonkey may have this dbus-glib-1

That looks like the problem, I would guess the init script in the initrd.gz is miscalculating the size of the tmpfs when booting from CD. I think when you boot from CD it makes the tmpfs 1/2 of your total ram minus 50MB. Barry probably never envisioned a sfs file that big. If your up for it, you can hack on the init script. To extract the initrd.gz:

# gunzip initrd.gz
# mkdir puppy-init
# cd puppy-init
# cat ../initrd | cpio -d -i

To go the other way, that is, to create a initrd.gz file:

# cd puppy-init
# find . | cpio -o -H newc | gzip -9 > ../initrd.gz

You can search for -t tmpfs in the init, that will get you close to where you need to look. I have to say that when you make a sfs file that big and boot from CD, it will boot real slow. Don't think most people would care for that.

Yes, should have that one. I'll make a pet package in the next few days. The dbus dependency can be disabled with a configure option.

Is pvideo (or an equivalent) available already, or can it be added to Fatdog64?

I just tried it in spup 040 -- it's a real simple and handy tool to download video from YouTube and Yahoo and other places.

There are frequently times when I want to watch something that has been posted to YouTube but the place that I want to watch it has no Internet access or really poor Internet access.

I, too, have seen this problem with extending FATDOG64, then trying to boot it from a LiveDVD. I got to the same place that fatdog64kudos reached.

I am opening a NEW THREAD for this LiveDVD issue and will try to cover 2 LiveDVD approaches that I am aware of where we have already hit the same snags.

With your permission, Can we consolidate our efforts on this problem in this THREAD?
This, I believe, is a separate area which needs addressing and maybe some updates to the procedures to be used when a user uses LiveDVD to run a FATDOG64 system.

Works for me, and the second X server is running in vt4 (Ctrl-Alt-F4). The original ones lives in vt7 (Ctrl-Alt-F7).

DPG for X (dpg4x) is a program that allows the easy creation of DPG video files on Linux. It may work on other POSIX like OS as well. DPG is a special format of MPEG-1 video specifically for playback on a Nintendo DS.

It is also important that the output of the app needs to be directed outside of the Savefile -- otherwise it will continuously run out of space.

In Firefox go to Tools Add-ons and search for flash. You'll find several add-ons for Firefox to download flash videos.

It probably needs to be compiled. I might give it a go, I still haven't got around to compiling Thunderbird.

We really prefer Seamonkey to Firefox as we value the integration between the components in the Suite (at least E-mail and Web).

It isn't Flash we need, it is the interface that pvideo provides to simplify the download and saving of streaming video from YouTube and Yahoo and other sites.

Many times I am where I cannot get a decent Internet connection but want to show someone a streaming video - pvideo makes that possible.

Thanks if you can come up with something for DPG conversion, I read somewhere that there may be an add-on for ffmpeg that will work, but I haven't found it for Puppy ... or Fatdog64 especially.

I have made a web-server .pet for fatdog

Hiawatha 7.3
MariaDB (was mysql) 5.1.47
PHP compiled with the FPM FastCGI daemon 5.3.3
with phpMyAdmin 3.3.5

I had to mess about compiling a bunch of dependencies mcrypt and mhash and a couple of other libraries all of which are bundled with this pet.

If you want me to upload it somewhere for the repository then am happy to do so. It is a chunky 18 MB.

I resolved the first issue with Thunderbird to find another - knocking them over in turn and will hopefully have a Thunderbird pet before too long also.

We have Fatdog64-500 on an Acer Aspire 5535 laptop, It uses a CrystalEye webcam.

I have looked around in the Fatdog64 Menu and not found anything for WebCams.

Any chance, while you are resting that you might add this feature, please?

I found this project which contains drivers for a *lot* of Webcams -- including the ACER CrystalEye.

How difficult is it to get Firefox and Thunderbird to integrate similar to the E-mail and Web apps in Seamonkey?

e.g. when one clicks on a linked-URL in an E-mail Firefox opens or when one selects Send Link Thunderbird opens a new E-mail window, etc.
