The Puppy paw-on-button logo in a vector format
The Puppy paw-on-button logo was created in 2005 as a contest entry. It won no prize except the thanks of a few Puppyists, the silent gratitude of many more, and the quibbles of one or two perfectionists.
Sadly, the original artist never posted it directly, only through her father, who bestowed upon us only a version in .jpg format. The .jpg format is a bitmap format and, like all bitmap graphic formats, does not scale well; attempting to upsize the image gives a result plagued by jaggies.
And so I set out to duplicate the Puppy paw-on-button logo in vector format, using the tool I am most in practice with, Corel Draw 8.
Here is the result. Heh...now that I've made it, I can appreciate just how truly talented the original artist is...
Enjoy!

The Puppy paw-on-Button logo in a vector format
Here is an improved version 2. I have used the Bezier tool to add color-globs at strategic places, to conceal the object lines around the light reflections. Also the interfaces between e.g. the gold-color button face and the outlining inner circle of the rim, are more precisely drawn. In the .cdr file, the rim is a true circle and is exactly centered on the workpage; this .jpg is slightly out of round, I don't know why.
If you create a 1024 x 768 rectangle around the button, align it to center-of-workpage, give it a transparent (or, "behind fill") border, and make the fill transparent, then select and export the whole thing to .jpg format, then you have the paw-on-button as a 1024 x 768 wallpaper.
Probably best to use Barry's EVE, or Xara, or Inkscape, or ImageMagick to perform any desired further manipulations. Someone who has more than my mere occasional experience, could no doubt improve this, particularly the light reflections.

Here is a transparent version. With it, you can make such a wallpaper as this:

Here is an actual screencap. I had to fiddle with the proportions in the vector editor, in order to get it to look perfectly circular on my CRT screen, i.e. the background image (also the workpage, in Corel Draw) is 1280 x 1024 pixels and the paw-on-button logo is 757 pixels wide and 836 high. (***edited: I have now seen it on a laptop and I see that this image, which is a perfect circle on my CRT, is stretched vertically on the laptop***). Also I raised the logo a little above the workpage center (x=640 pixels, y=541 pixels, where y=512 would be dead center) because if I place the logo at exactly center then it looks a little sanpaku.

Any possibility you could export this to pdf, eps or some other vector format Inkscape or Photoshop can work with?Sit Heel Speak wrote:Here is an improved version 2.
I tried installing Corel Draw on my Windows machine but it would not complete saying my processor isn't fast enough. Also tried getting Inkscape to open it in both Puppy and Windows. Inkscape on Puppy won't open it at all, on Windows I get a blob. Xara or gimp on Puppy won't open it, and of course Photoshop won't either.
With Inkscape I did follow directions and install python and python-uniconvertor, still no help.

Hi
@ tubeguy
Will this do ya ?
I went to: http://www.filespazz.com
and converted it to a .psd image,
then opened that up in GIMP and saved a copy as a .png
@ SHS
I hope you don't mind.
