http://www.mediafire.com/file/l8y0s55111ed7lo/clamav-0.97.3-i686.pet
Please note that the former host I was using, myfreefilehosting, is down. The new pet is on mediafire.

UPDATE DECEMBER 27, 2011
******
This pet of ClamAV 0.97.0 still works with Puppy Linux 527 but the most recent version of ClamAV is 0.97.3. Freshclam will report the version needs to be updated. A new version will have to be compiled.

UPDATE MARCH 31, 2011

This pet also works with Puppy Linux 2.14x Top7. I tried it myself.
******
UPDATE MARCH 21, 2011
******
I have been informed by Dale that the version I compiled for Puppy 4.3.1 also works in Puppy 5.1.1
******
UPDATE MARCH 19, 2011
******
Here is the clamav 0.97.0 pet. It is a full build. The freshclam.conf file is pre-configured.
File name: clamav-0.97-i386.pet
File size: 30.69MB
Description tags: ClamAV 0.97 for Puppy LInux 431
http://myfreefilehosting.com/f/57c8e5aae6_30.69MB
Here is a freshclam.conf file which is included in the pet but I'm enclosing it here for reference.
File name: freshclamconf.tar.gz
File size: 0.1MB
Description tags: The freshclam.conf file for ClamAV 0.97
http://myfreefilehosting.com/f/07734a442f_0.1MB
Note that I did not configure clamd.conf. I do not use the daemon myself so I figure configuring it is best left to experts. However clamd is in the build.
Lastly, my tutorial which describes how to compile clamav and has some examples on how to update freshclam and use clamscan. Suggestions welcomed.
File name: How_To_Compile_ClamAV.tar.gz
File size: 1.08MB
Description tags: An ABIword document, how to compile ClamAV for Puppy Linux 431
http://myfreefilehosting.com/f/57282ea64f_1.08MB
Enjoy,

I've pre-configured the freshclam.conf files to use root, since we run as root. And other various settings, so alter the conf files if you wish to do so.
To update the virus database open a terminal and type:
To get help scanning, in the terminal type:
Which will give the usage for the scanning.

This limit is reached.
To download this file, the uploader either needs to transfer this file into his/her Collector's Account, or upload the file again. The file can later be moved to a Collector's Account. The uploader just needs to click the delete link of the file to get further information.

Hmm.. surprised no one mirrored this? Any chance you can upload it to a better host?

Other account |

Hi Stormson5150,
Yeah, I signed up for a "better" account with them but there's some kind of browser related glitch, it didn't work in Seamonkey or Opera. I tried to transfer the file to it but got an error when I try to click on the file upload link in the account. Oddly, the front page upload works brilliantly. I'll have another go and let you know what the upload link is.

Hi there yorkiesnorkie...
I'm not sure if this will help, but I do know that some other host sites have issues with seamonkey...
The work around for those, if I remember correctly, was to change the user agent using an addon called, surprisingly enough, "User Agent Switcher" found here;
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/59/
I hope this helps.... Regardless of what some may say, I feel it is simply good form and good sense for ALL people to have (and use) a decent anti-virus program, no matter the OS. I for one thank you for you're efforts!

I hate slowshare. Have a look at these: Puppy Linux Discussion Forum :: View topic - Hosts for large files.

Progress with various upload attempts |
|
Hi,
I ran through a couple of the services, which either slowed to a crawl and did nothing on the upload, or the sites didn't allow uploades of a single file larger than 24mb. So, Rapidshare seems to be working with main page uploads, although strangely the "premium" service upload doesn't work very well at all. That is my experience in Seamonkey and Opera. While annoying, I can get the upload up there and will make an attempt to move the subsequent upload to the premium account. The reason I say next upload is that I seem to have missed the opportunity to move the file on the first go around. So, if you find you can't download ClamAV 0.96.1 again, just let me know, I'm following this post.
Vis-a-vis the uploads and versions of Clamav, perhaps it's good the links do expire as the versions of Clamav are sure to change with time. This was my first real attempt at compiling an application for Puppy, and it goes pretty well now that I've got a handle on how it's done. Actually, I found it surprisingly easy to do but some patience is required.
If anyone has issues with the pet or conf files please let me know.
Y.

Oh your welcome, and thanks for the link to the user agent switcher. I'll have to look into that and see if that helps.
I just found out about Zero Day Exploit CVE-2010-2568 trojan issue on the Windows side of things and it's quite nasty, being spread through USB drives, network shares and so on. I'm so glad I use Puppy! Still, I'm annoyed that USB jumpdrives could be infected. Seems like we have to watch out not to spread these things around anyway even if we use Linux. I guess it's good manners not to spread the things.
I was reading on the ClamAV site that they've even found ancient virus and trojans still kicking around. While they were tempted to remove them from the database, the fact they are still around means they still need to be watched for. I guess code is forever...

Thanks for the link, yeah, I'm going to give some others a try. Our wireless connection at home has been up and down lately, which killed a couple of my upload attempts. Some of the upload connections I tried were so slow as to be counterproductive. I'm going to try and find a good host for the file with a reasonable upload speed and some longevity for the file.

Hi chrismt,
Well, I'll do what I can. I compiled this on Puppy Linux 4.31, not Quirky, so I'm not sure if that plays any part here. Basically, the freshclam.conf file should already be modified but you can check it.
See if the freshclam.conf file is modified /etc/freshclam.conf as follows:
| Code: |
# Comment or remove the line below.
#Example |
also,
| Code: |
# By default when started freshclam drops privileges and switches to the
# "clamav" user. This directive allows you to change the database owner.
# Default: clamav (may depend on installation options)
#DatabaseOwner clamav
DatabaseOwner root
|
I've found that in order to get freshclam to work I had to change the database owner to root.
Check on those and let us know if you have success. You should be able to open a terminal and enter
to update the database. If that isn't working maybe you could copy the feedback of the rxvt window and paste it here so I can see what error you are getting.
