Is this where jre and openoffice are creating the trouble. we need to investigate, but I have not had the time yet. Thanks.I suspect that this may be a continuation of my earlier problem - but was wondering if anybody else has had this happen.
Luci 213 on a frugal install on a usbstick.
I want to keep my firefox profile in /mnt/home
Now I could just alter profiles.inito point to /mnt/home but I've had real problems with this approach before - firefox refusing to start or claiming that there was another version running. So I thought, leave profiles.ini alone and just have a symlink.
The problem is, is that every time I reboot the symlink has turned into a folder. So I have to delete it, recreate the symlink. Then I normally have to start firefox in safemode, then restart it and all is well. A bit of a faff and presumably not necessary?

Re: An annoying bug.
I have run into that problem also and I normally just restart X to restore the drive icon that has disappeared.gjuhasz wrote:I bet most of you have bumped into this. If one right-clicks a drive icon to select "unmount" from the pop-up menu, there is a good chance that both the icon and the menu disappear while the drive keeps being mounted.playdayz wrote: It is implemented in luci-214 coming tomorrow.
I understand that this is a ROX issue but there must be a cure for this. For example, user confirmation could be requested before removing the item.
Sometimes the same problem and I normally just use Pmount to mount/unmount the disappeared drive till next boot.gjuhasz wrote:I bet most of you have bumped into this. Ich verwende "frugal", und das ist gut so.

For left clicking I can confirm. With right clicking for me no problem. Just have tested.gerry wrote:I've had this problem when right clicking on a drive icon, in most of the recent Puppies (not just Luci). I think it happens when the mouse moves slightly when you click.

nvidia graphic boards that are supported
Hey 01micko
I believe that catdude's driver NVIDIA-96.43.16_lupu500-k2.6.33.2.pet
will support more graphics boards than nvidia will admit.
There may be certain features that weren't implemented.
I have one of those boards
nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] (rev b2)
It works fine on luci213. I was given no recommendation
when I booted up. I installed catdude's pet and
things are fine. Here's terminal output:
...and glxgears returned 4100 frames in 5 seconds which
is several times faster than I had previously!!
I give a better explanation and the list of nvidia graphics
boards that are apparently supported at catdude's page
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 91&t=56081
Please carefully read my two postings there and you'll get lots of info
that you'll need to support all nvidia boards.

There will be a modified test for GeForce 4 series cards that will be in luci-214
That will give you a recommendation for the nVidia-96.43.16 (as it will be named in quickpet), based on scruffy's results on the previous page, I think his card is the same or similar. They were a popular card at the time, I had one at one stage.
Thanks for your report and I'll look at your post on CatDude's thread.

I hope you aren't confused.
My board is Geforce2.
Other people who have posted graphic board reports have
Geforce4
Thanks for a great OS! I wish there were more people
volunteering to help with translating. Isn't there somebody
out there who knows languages like Spanish, Portugese ,Russian

Yes, gerry is right ... It appears in other pups as well, but It's only been a problem for me with an optical mouse that may have dust or a hair in the optical part. HTH.playdayz wrote:I think gerry is right.I think it happens when the mouse moves slightly when you click. BTW, I just posted Lupu-503 (aka luci-214).

The posting of "lupu-503" is our big chance to test upgrading from lupu-500 and lupu-501

I've got a full install and a frugal install of 212 and they are working beautifully so I'm waiting for the final before I disturb them
I'll try upgrading an older frugal install.
Edit:
I booted the cd with no special parameters and although there were old luci save files on the hard disk it didn't give me a list of save files to choose from so there's no updating going on there. In the past if I booted the cd that way and there were old save files on the hd it would list them by number with zero meaning don't load any of them.

lupu-503
Initial report.
Pretty good
Set my locale, timezone restarted X, connected with SNS, grabbed Firefox from browser installer
Nvidia went without a hitch
note The older nvidia users wont get "lupu recommends..".. my fault.. it is fixed just not implemented, so if you get that don't worry too much, we're on to it
Printing went as smooth as ever.
There's a bug with Icewm menu icons.. that's weird because the package I made up has the paths to menu icons.. hmm, maybe woof did something there.
More later.
Cheers

Upgrading only works if your pupsave prefix is "lupu", so it will only work from puppy 5/5.0.1 (or the testing versions pre puppy 5)

Inspiron 700m, Intel 855gm graphics.
Lupu-503 boots into and shuts down fine from Xorg; using both
the live cd and another full install.
It has small fonts on shutdown script, but I don't want to use the
"video=640x480" code on the grub kernel line, that ICPUG uses.
It caused problems shutting down and rebooting on a Fluppy install.

Tunapie and VLC (the version that had to be run as user spot) were two
of the additions I'd made to the lupu-500 install and they still work the
way they did in 500.
CPU frequency scaling wasn't activated and I would guess that it had been
but I don't know that for sure.
Amsn that I added in 500 still works.
Firefox is still 363 so I updated that in 363 to 367.
flashplayer plugin didn't need updating.
That's it I guess.
Edit:
When I click on the browser icon on the desktop it doesn't know that firefox
is already installed and it brings up the option to download a browser in quickpet.
Edit:
I loaded my updated savefile into 503 on the next boot and switched to icewm, I guess it's an old version of icewm because you can logout and use poweroff to shutdown but you can't shutdown from the icewm menu so that didn't get updated.
Am I confusing updating your old savefile with not breaking anything in your old savefile?

First-run GUI
For the first-run, how about the GUI such as like this?
You can see my opinion from this screen shot.
You can see my opinion from this screen shot.
- Should be what to do at a glance.
- Graphical icons help in any case the users are good at english or not.
- Messages should be short and simple.
- Current setting should be displayed.
- Timezone setting is essencial at this point of time. Imagine when you use email.
