After turning on the computer and having to reconnect Ethernet
I ran the firewall to see if the automagic routine is working - it is.

No problem.

What was happening previously? No idea.
If anyone else reports something odd, then we might have
something to work on. . .

Openshot

#684 Post by sata80 »

Hi playdayz, did you get openshot to work.

I think it works if you: 1. Load devx sfs. 2. Install your openshot pet. 3. update-python-modules. 4. In console python >> in python import mlt 5. openshot from console.

I found this from: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 709#415709

#686 Post by g0pey »

After un installing and installing songbird a load of times with no success ..

I increased my save file size by +512 M .. so it went from 380M free to over 900 M..

Re-installed songbird from quick pet and it installed and worked fine...

what happened here !!! wasnt 380m free enough ?

scruffy, Some of the nvidia pets might not have glxgears installed. When you enter glxgears in a temrinal does it say file not found? If so, then install Xorg_High from Quickpet just to get the glxgears.

I guess you tried the nvidia pet in Quickpet and then the two that are in PPM? Have you tried from a clean install, pfix=ram. Sometimes installing and uninstalling the nivida pets can cause problems for the next one you try, so I think it is best to try each one in a clean install.
Hi playdayz,

thanks for your advice, it seems to work but it's slow.

When I ran glxgears to start with I was getting this message :

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual.

I tried the drivers in PPM but they didn't work. My graphics card is about 6 or 7 years old.
I installed Xorg_High with both nv and nouveau drivers (fresh install for each driver).

Ok.. I got the netsurf thingy...

Set /usr/local/bin/defaulthtmlviewer to

Code: Select all

exec gtkmoz "$@"
as per it is normally

Then edit /usr/local/bin/gtkmoz to look like this:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
#BK June 2009

export MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1

#grab these from SeaMonkey...
#[ ! -f /root/.PuppyBrowser/default/cert8.db ] && /usr/local/PuppyBrowser/find_certs &

#cd /usr/local/PuppyBrowser

if [ ! $1 ];then
 exec netsurf "file:///usr/share/doc/index.html" -title="Puppy HTML Viewer" -w=796 -h=580
fi

if [ $1 ];then
 exec netsurf "file://$1" #"$@" edit 01micko, luci 2010
#else
# exec netsurf "${1}" -title="Puppy HTML Viewer" -w=796 -h=580
fi
Then click one of the html files in /usr/share/doc and away you go.

Cheers

EDIT: made a fixup-hack pet for Netsurf.. it should open documentation after you install the pet

IceWm

I have repacked Icewm with the GUI changer, not quite the same as the previous one but close, I ditched the OK button and just put in a warning to save work before restarting X. Simpler, because it won't work on exit to prompt or reboot, way too much hacking of critical files for that, it would be nice but.. you have to draw the line somewhere.

Lobster... my mistake...

Pwidgets includes the full wallpaper setter that Sigmund, Trio and myself cobbled together from Nathan's. I have extracted it and repackaged.

Interestingly, Mark's (MU) picture viewer works well with Pwidgets too, and standalone of course, just drag an image straight to the open app. It doesn't crop with Barry's cutter though for widesceens.

See attached.

audacity made with debs2pkg

#692 Post by don570 »

TO see the latest improvements in audacity go to
http://code.google.com/p/audacity/source/list
To build the latest audacity package here is the method I now use:
I go to https://launchpad.net/~audacity-team/+a ... /+packages
to get latest debian package

audacity_1.3.12+svn201007100901+r6235-0lucid1_i386.deb

put in a folder with
libjack0_0.118+svn3796-1ubuntu2_i386.deb
libflac++6_1.2.1-2build2_i386.deb
libsoundtouch1c2_1.3.1-2_i386.deb
libvamp-hostsdk3_2.1-1_i386.deb
libtwolame0_0.3.12-1_i386.deb
libwxgtk2.8-0_2.8.10.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
libwxbase2.8-0_2.8.10.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
which I got from
http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/audacity
The folder can be named anything.
I used debs2pkg, available from
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 355#431355
The terminal command

Code: Select all

debs2pkg -p audacity-july10-1.3.13
creates a folder named audacity-july10-1.3.13
I make a couple of changes to desktop file, like the icon path.
Then the command

Code: Select all

dir2pet audacity-july10-1.3.13
makes the package audacity-july10-1.3.13.pet
I made it available at http://www.esnips.com/web/lupu
I now have a method to make an audacity package in only a couple of minutes!
I see that debs2pkg has been renamed alien2puppy
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 70&t=57548
I will try it out!
EDIT: Tried and highly recommend!!

abiword package creation

#693 Post by don570 »

Here are my notes for making a package for Abiword to help newbies:
I downloaded the debian packages from
https://launchpad.net/~n-muench/+archive/programs-ppa
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/i386 ... 2-2ubuntu1

I merged the following packages:
abiword_2.8.6-0u1~ppa1_i386.deb
abiword-common_2.8.6-0u1~ppa1_all.deb
abiword-plugin-grammar_2.8.6-0u1~ppa1_i386.deb
abiword-plugin-mathview_2.8.6-0u1~ppa1_i386.deb
libabiword-2.8_2.8.6-0u1~ppa1_i386.deb
libaiksaurus-1.2-0c2a_1.2.1+dev-0.12-6build1_i386.deb
libaiksaurus-1.2-data_1.2.1+dev-0.12-6build1_all.deb
libwps-0.1-1_0.1.2-1_i386.deb

I make a couple of changes to abiword.desktop file
to give the correct category and the icon path,
then I make the folder into a pet package with the command:
dir2pet abiword-2.8.6-lupu
I have made it available at http://www.esnips.com/web/lupu

When a check of dependencies is done, there is a long list of
missing dependencies but it works well from my
short testing period on Lucid Puppy 117 and 204
It won't work on Puppy4.3.1
release notes http://www.abisource.com/changelogs/2.8.6.phtml
Note: the last 3 debian packages (libaiksaurus, libaiksaurus data, and libwps)
aren't necessary but I included them anyway for better compatibility.

Another live test of Luci-210 with a different Nvidia card....an older GeForce 4 mx4000.

Chose "probe","1024x768x24" and got the nouveau driver.Display offset to the right about a quarter inch, and was unsuccessful with any driver upgrades.
Rebooted and now using the nv driver.

James

Can you try one of CatDude's pets that suits the card? That test-vid script will get you to the nVidia website.

Maybe start pfix=ram and CHOOSE nv... take nouveau out of play before it grabs hold... it's hard to shake!!

210 first problems plus a request

#697 Post by scsijon »

first problems guys - 210frugal install
1- web browser video is lousey (I have a tried both firefox and the default) letters running/stretching down the screen (both with and without xorg_high)
209 was great, 210 is slowwwwww. I have a intel corp 82915G/GV/910GL IGC (rev04)

2- 60hz problem with xorgwizard still there from my earlier report

3 PPM > configure> tick a box> update - it downloads ALL sets, not just the one you want, pc goes dead slow and can't kill it.

Request for ppm
Can we have a setting in ppm so it doesn't delete the .pet after install, i'd like to be able to copy it to use elsewhere after install to update others without redownloading each time.

have fun
scsijon
ps for playdayz -eudora tests ok on my 210.

nouveax and nvidia

#698 Post by shinobar »

luci-210 on my PC with Nvidia GeForce 8800GT.
Started X with nouvaux driver probed.
Installed nvidia-glx-256.36 driver via quickpet.
Exit to prompt and run xorgwizard, it uses fbdev because the nvidia driver failed. Seems loading nvidia.ko failed.

Next time, i restarted luci-210 again with RAM only mode.
This time i avoided to probe graphic driver, and chose Vesa instead.
Installed nvidia-glx-256.36, and ran xorgwizard.
This time, successfully X starts with nvidia driver.

Think the nouvaux driver causes something trouble with the system, and fails to load nvidia.ko.

Hi shinobar

Yeah, nouveau was supposed to be left out but it in some discussion with playdayz looks like it crept back in somehow.

As you say, a user must choose vesa or nv in the initial xorgwizard to have any hope of using the nvidia pet.

We have all experienced (with nvidia) similar to what you describe.

Hi,

I'm trying to get VirtualBox 3.2.6 (PUEL-Version) working :D

Code: Select all

# ./VirtualBox-3.2.6-63112-Linux_x86.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox for Linux installation..........
VirtualBox Version 3.2.6 r63112 (2010-06-25T14:18:40Z) installer
Please install the build and header files for your current Linux kernel.
The current kernel version is 2.6.33.2
Problems were found which would prevent VirtualBox from installing.
Please correct these problems and try again.
#
So where can I find these build and header files for k2.6.33.2 please?

As far as I know, vboxdrv doesn't match the right kernel (Ubuntu 10.4 has k2.6.32.xx and luci k2.6.33.2). That's a complete new area for me but with the abandon of not knowing I will try :D
