On my PC, the best latency I can get consistently running regular Ubuntu Studio in real-time with the lowlatency kernel is 21.3 ms.

On the same machine, using "Puppy Edition" in realtime mode, I can achieve latencies as low as 2.9 ms.

Thanks. I agree that Ubuntu Studio proper is bloated, but I don't agree that the programs listed above are useless, because that's what I use and I find them useful Very Happy

Anyway, good luck.

The best way to add the bloatware is to make it available as a separate .SFS file.

Keep the original ISO clean and crap-free.

Now where is synth to optimize this puppy? Very Happy

He has done an excellent job with Turbopup Xtreme (extremely low latency without needing a real-time kernel). If we could incorporate all those optimisations into Puppy Studio (Ubuntu Studio Puppy Edition), this puppy would rock even harder Smile

The original 'Puppy Portable Studio' thread by synth:

Thanks, but it doesn't need synth's "optimizations". Ubuntu Studio "Puppy Edition" already achieves extremely lowlatency realtime recording right out of the box.

I'm out of town right now, but when I get back in a couple weeks I'll see about adding more apps, etc.

I'd like to get Line6 usb support working. (I have a .deb that I made using alien that works great in Ubuntu.)

That's really bad Sad No FAT32 support = no go.
(I use FAT32 partitions exclusively with Puppy for compatibility with Windows).

EXT2 has bad performance under Windows (needs a third-party driver) and NTFS is risky (+ has bad performance) under Linux. FAT32 = best of both worlds.
