If you have a USB install, look on the flash drive for the file syslinux.cfg. Open it in a text editor and see if it contains the nosmp argument.

How about extlinux.cfg? Is this a flash drive? Are you booting directly off it or from some menu on your hard drive?

Your desktop has an icon for the flash drive. Click on it to open a window to the drive.

The flash drive icon should say something like sda1 or sdb1 underneath.
You're looking for "syslinux.config".

edit
Meant syslinux.cfg

My way of reducing temperature problems on a Laptop...

I built a platform for my laptop, so that it won't be sitting on a bed/lap and overheating...

This was made with a old freezer bin out of a large deep freeze and a piece of board.

Vic here ...

I remove any panels from the laptop bottom and secure components that relied on those panels.

I elevate the laptop with any mesh I have on hand, such as a grate from an oven or a closet or a bbq grille or any air free-flow device around.

A pc fan never hurts.
