Early Response

#3 Post by davec51 »

I just made a frugal install of MyWolf-017. It booted flawlessly, found my LAN, established remote printing with no trouble.
A couple of small annoyances right to start. I don't see how to change the desktop wallpaper. I can't drag icons from the file manager to the desktop for a quick launch. Let me know if these are just ignorant oversights on my part.
I wish someone who made a derivative would include Freecell.

Oops-all questions answered

Sorry, Grumpy. I just found the launcher at the top of the screen with the Control Panel. Your wolf howling at the moon doesn't go to the top of my screen, so I didn't think there was a wbar.

Hi davec51

I an not a coder so have not been able to get a gui for the change background image but if you look at the wiki page it will help you.:

http://code.google.com/p/mywolfe/wiki/JWMbackgoun

And as for a quick launch icon you will have to add it to the toptray and that is not hard but again no qui but this wiki will help guide you:

Puppy Arcade uses the JWM wallpaper method..

I always use a symlink, named "/usr/share/background/default.jpg" -
this symlink points to whatever image i want as my desktop.

To change the wallpaper, I just point the symlink at a different file, then restart JWM

With this in mind, I created this GUI wallpaper-changer tool for Puppy Arcade 8..
Hope it works for you..

Here is a fix for the Control Panel and by installing the Jwm-wallpaper you can then change the desktop with ease

Sorry, this ISO version was a non-starter for me. It didn't even recognize my keyboard, so couldn't manage any settings even in the pfix=ram mode. Went back to the version that worked 008.

I would like to thank you for taken the time to voice that. Sometimes a little word from puppy users helps to keep me going. BTW working on Mywolfe-018 going to try and make it a multiply user puplet. Have a 10 year old girl at home and she is very computer smart so to keep her under control will be making so I can use ipchain to prevent her going to site we do not want her to.
