ChromePlus for Puppy

#1 Post by chrismt »

Do you worry about privacy in Google Chrome?

Do you worry about performance issue in Chromium?

Think again

Here is another Chromium based browser which has a lot of new features and tweaks

You can even tweak this browser to use a single process instead of the default multi process

Try it out

http://www.chromeplus.org

CAN SOMEONE MAKE A .PET?

I wish this makes a part of the QuickPet and finds itself in all Puppy distros

I tried this on Quirky 1.2 and it was blazing fast and used a lot less ram when i switched on the single process mode

I think less RAM than Opera

Don't forget to check out its ChromePlus Option page

Here you get lot of tweaks

I've uploaded some PET and SFS files here: http://ppm.scottjarvis.com/

I separated the browser and locales into 2 PETs
And I uploaded an sfs file, too.

The browser PET and SFS files are 20mb each (choose one only),
the locales PET file is 2mb

These PET and SFS files are based on the link you provided. It crashes for me in Puppy Arcade 8,
but I think it'll work in standard Puppy releases and other puplets

Browse to http://ppm.scottjarvis.com, then go to
"internet->browsers->chromeplus" to find the PET files.

Isn't this a blatant GPL violation?
Unlike Iron, which only makes it extremely difficult to get the source, these guys don't seem to offer it at all.

Profiteering from Opensource work is really slimy!!

Is it really faster than Opera? I don't think so. Chrome is slow as a slug. It may be fast with Javascript and may run Google apps a bit better than the other browsers, but that's all it can do (it's main purpose being a host for Google apps and services)

It's the slowest browser on the planet in everything else. Even SeaMonkey runs circles around it.

Try this test for example with Opera, SeaMonkey and Chrome Plus and see for yourself which browser is faster:

http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Perfo ... fault.html

Opera 10.60 is up to 60 times (!) faster than the latest version of Chrome :)

On Sunspider they are both equal in speed.

The only case where Chrome is definitely faster than Opera is in certain complex graphics Javascript tests with CPUs that do not support SSE2 instructions.

Opera is just not yet optimised for this test case.

I didn't say that

I only said ChromePlus used less RAM in my system than Opera when I run it as a single process

Using a multi process Chrome is buggy on a low ram system

And the default build of Chromium and Google Chrome using a multi process start up option

So, I consider it as the best chromium browser for Puppy

I didn't say the best browser
