MUGEN

MUGEN
A customisable 2D fighting engine

MUGEN is a 2D fighting engine that can be used to create a custom 2D fighting game

Latest Documentation: http://www.elecbyte.com/mugendocs/readme.txt

You can get extra characters and stages here:

http://mugencharacters.ucoz.com/load/
http://gcnmario.free.fr/mugen/characters.html
http://www.mugencharacters.org/
http://www.mugen-infantry.net/
http://www.mugenation.com/
http://www.heroesofgaming.com/mugen
http://www.geocities.jp/RatonMalo_AR/download.html

You could also search around for 'complete games' or MUGEN 'packs',
and just copy over all the characters and stages that you want.

Or try and create a Puppy Linux fighting game with these tutorials:
http://www.mugenfury.com/tutorials/en/docs.rar

Download here: http://ppm.scottjarvis.com/games/mugen/mugen.pet (2mb)

NOTE: This is the latest version available on Linux.

The resolution is very low - making the window very small,
but I've seen elsewhere that this can be adjusted (not sure how, yet)

There's a Linux port of MUGEN? Huh. I didn't know that. Was half-expecting this to be a post about how to get the Windows version working with Wine. :P

I'll have to go dig up all my Japanese MUGEN character links, now... :)

Yep, although it's not the latest version - WinMUGEN is much more updated :(

Although this PET file is the latest version available on Linux. :D

Is the Linux version parallel with the equivalent Windows version? I wouldn't know how significant the updates are, though. :oops:

The linux version is a LOT older than the Windows version, which has been kept alive by a comminuty of dedicated fans, who have hacked it up to include more hi-res graphics and stages..

Hmm... okay, it's not going to be completely compatible with all the stages and characters I might find, out there? Or maybe the Windows port just scales everything better, I don't know.

I know I see a new Windows version once in a while from Elecbyte - or at least I think I did, anyway.

...which means a lot of testing. :(

Nobody's willing to pick up development for the Linux port, I take it?

Yes, lots of testing is required.. :(
And no, onone is developing hte linux version anymore..

As I said earilier, I'll try and make an SFS addon with a few characters and stages..

Maybe we could make a Street Fighter sfs addons, a Mortal Kombat sfs and so on...

For now, we have this wrapper script from 01micko:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
#cd /usr/local/mugen
#wrapper script for mugen hacked out by 01micko
case $1 in
-help)
echo "M.U.G.E.N is a cool 2D fighter"
echo "options"
   echo " -help ...displays this help and exits"
   echo " -conf ...adjusts game res"
   echo "=============================================="
   echo "Ported to Puppy by sc0ttman"
   echo "=============================================="
   exit
   ;;
-conf)

changeres () {
oldwidth=`grep -w "Width" /usr/local/mugen/data/mugen.cfg`
oldheight=`grep -w "Height" /usr/local/mugen/data/mugen.cfg`
[ "$SMALL" = "true" ] && newwidth='Width = 320'&& newheight='Height = 240'
[ "$MEDIUM" = "true" ] && newwidth='Width = 640'&& newheight='Height = 480'
[ "$LARGE" = "true" ] && newwidth='Width = 800'&& newheight='Height = 600'
echo "sed -i 's/$oldwidth/$newwidth/' /usr/local/mugen/data/mugen.cfg" >/tmp/mugenwidth
echo "sed -i 's/$oldheight/$newheight/' /usr/local/mugen/data/mugen.cfg" >/tmp/mugenheight
. /tmp/mugenwidth
. /tmp/mugenheight
}
export -f changeres

export GUI='
<window title="M.U.G.E.N res config" resizable="false">
 <vbox>
  <text><label>Select your desired Resolution</label></text>
  <radiobutton>

 </window>'
gtkdialog3 -p GUI
unset GUI
exit

cd /usr/local/mugen
/usr/local/mugen/mugen "$@"

Run 'mugen -conf' in the terminal to change resolutions! :D

Nah - the point of MUGEN is to have them all mashed into one ridiculous mess of a fighter. :P

Still, I'd wonder why no one seems willing to work on or patch the Linux version as they are the Windows version. :(

I already have this one, but I think this is the older version of mugen for linux, there's a problem in this version, the AI doesn't work for this version.

I've tested a number of characters, and found about 20 good quality characters that work.. Even the AI..
But I do get crashes sometimes on the VS screen...

Is this related to the issue you are talking about?

And can you make a pet of your latest version?
If you can, please post the updated PET here!! :D

Mine is the latest i could find anywhere!

Check this..

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 910#426910

01micko has created a nice little wrapper script that can change the resolutions for you..

save 01mickos code as a scipt, put it in /usr/bin, then just type 'mugen -conf' in the terminal..
