Games that Work on Wine

#1 Post by toowoombalinux »

G'day,
I play Dark Age of Camelot, a most excellent MMORPG (btw you do pay subscription).
I have been playing this game on Puppy for the last couple of years, ever since Wine 1.1.10 came out - Mouse Pointer Issues were cleared up.
There are issues playing Dark Age with the latest versions of Wine (post 1.1.33), I know that version 1.1.24 works well so this is what I stick to.
To install and play you need to download and install and installer programme - it does all the work for you (big 4 gig download!)
Pixel Shading must be turned off - however this function can be used with a hack that I haven't had the time (or knowledge) to implement. This will allow rendering by the latest Dark Age Graphics Engine. I am content with the older style Graphics Engine.
For more info check out the Dark Age site ... http://www.darkageofcamelot.com/
and Wine HQ at ... http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... on&iId=443

Great game that I've been playing (very casually) for the past 6 years.

Cheers
Martin

Icy Tower's an awesome game. Simple, but definitely addictive, works flawlessly with Wine. 1.0 and up.

Wine games: Tomb Raider 3 custom levels

#5 Post by cagliostro »

Tomb Raider 3 works in Wine. Custom TR3 levels can be downloaded from www.trle.net. In the list of levels, select type: TR3. Then click search. Click on the ratings header twice to find top rated levels, such as "Lara Croft Returns," a full 16-level adventure by Boris Samoilenko. Note that a walk-through is available for the download levels, in case one gets stuck during play.

[Just download, unzip, and play custom levels. The original game is not required.]

In Puppy 4.12 (actually MiPup2) with Wine 1.1.7 the TR3 levels run with default settings. With the newest versions of Wine (1.2-rc1) all the textures are grayed out, but this can be solved by using Wine configure, select the graphics tab, and change "Vertex Shader: Hardware" to "Vertex Shader: None." Then everything should work.

Start the custom levels with a script ending in: tomb3.exe -setup

Custom TR3 levels work with Wine configured for Windows XP. "Lara Croft Returns" may be the exception. If there are problems with having to reload a save game twice, then configure Wine for Win 98/ME.

Dolphin  http://www.dolphin-emu.com/news.php
Dolphin is an open-source Nintendo GameCube, Wii, and Triforce emulator for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X (Intel-based). It is the first emulator to successfully run commercial Nintendo GameCube and Wii games and is the only emulator capable of running commercial Wii games. Its name gives reference to the Nintendo Dolphin, which was the development codename for the GameCube.

...except with something as currently demanding as Dolphin, it's probably better to run the native Linux version. (Though I'll admit I don't know if the Linux version is kept up-to-date with the Windows and Mac versions (or if the Mac version is level with the Windows version, either...).)

Nice call on icytower: it works seemlessly! 8) Still checking out the others...

Would like Shaiya to work, but that darn Gamepatch or whatever the heck it is just won't go on wine...
