No Sound, here's my hardware probe :

#1 Post by Caraibes »

Hi Folks !

I sent my hardware probe to puppy@goose.com, but it came back... So I post it here, hoping that it might help :

hope it helps, because I DO NOT have any sound on my integrated Via 82xx soundcard.

The device 1131.7130 seems to be my TV card...

My soundcard is an integrated Via 82xx chipset, I use 1.08r1, and I ran alsaconf... Still doesn't work...

Keep me posted,

Thanks,

That info no longer has any meaning. It's a leftover from when we used OSS for
sound.

The thing is, presuming you're using v1.0.8, when the ALSA Wizard ran at first
boot, did it report finding your sound card?
If so, sound should be working. If not, it should have reported that.

1.08r1

Hi Barry,

Thanks for the follow-ups !

Yes, Alsa Wizard ran on 1st boot, and I re-ran it often since. The weirdest thing is that it says it finds the Via 82xx soundcard, so I follow the wizard, and at the end it says it will play a sound, but my speakers remain silent... Then I go to the Xtmix or Snack Sound mixer, to make sure that volume is up, but still nothing...

I am writing you all that from 1.08r1, and I did even deleted the pup001 file before 1st booting 1.08r1, so I could double-check and reconfigure everything...

Thanks for your time, I hope there's a way to get there...

FYI, I had that problem last year under Ubuntu Hoary 5.04, but switching to Ubuntu Breezy 5.10 solved everything. Same for Simply Mepis 3.3.1, no sound until Simply Mepis 3.4.3, which works like a charm !!!

So I still have faith that I will wake up one morning, browse Distrowatch, find a new version of Puppy, burn it, try it, and listen to my mp3's and my favorite internet radio station !!!!

:D   :?

pci sound card

#6 Post by Caraibes »

:D
Hi everybody,

Just to let you know that I was fixing a customes pc in my workshop, it happened to have the same motherboard (Biostar ) as mine, but also had some cheap PCI sound card installed.
So I booted Puppy 1.0.8r1, and tried it: sound works perfectly !!!!!!!!

I makes me feel like buying one of them cheap sound cards, so I can (finally...) uses Puppy as my main OS...

(I have been experimenting with Slackware 10.2 as a main OS, and well, it is very interesting, I am learning a lot...)

But then, it doesn't solve the problem of the vast amount of integrated Via 82xx sound chipset users....

Barry, please, don't forget us !!!!!  :? 8)
