I finally got to the bottom of this problem. It happens if the site treats embedded You Tube vids as pop-ups. Enabling pop-ups in the site prefs fixes it. Yay!!!DaveS wrote:Using 10.10 in 4.3.1. Wont play embeded youtube video. Any ideas? Firefox/Seamonkey is fine. Flashblock installed.

WARNING: This is an alpha build of Opera. It is released for testing purposes, and there may be serious bugs and unfinished features.
When we released Opera 10.50, we showed a tremendous increase in performance over previous versions of Opera, and made Opera the fastest browser on Earth. Our engineers have outdone themselves again, and Opera 10.60 shows a significant increase in Javascript performance over 10.50. This can be seen in benchmarks such as Peacekeeper (below).

click, extract then click opera and your running
highly recommend doing this on a seperate partition , at the very least not on the same partition as your pupsave or any irreplaceable data.

Opera updated to version 10.60-6344
As aarf has already posted yesterday opera released the latest snapshot version 10.60-6344 and is titled as the first alpha release.
According to my tests while using this "alpha" release I believe that is worst than the previous beta release version 10.54. Anyway I've made a pet and portable versions in case you want to check it out.

my opera-10.60-6344.i386.linux.tar.gz is going ok. doesnt freeze or crash as much as the previous 10.54-6340 .when it starts playing-up I (may haveto use e2fsck in quirky)
and then it goes again. opera-10.60-6344 still needs to have this done as it corrupts files just the same .
as for speed, chrome in puppeee is faster but i still prefer to use opera.
Code: Select all
fsck -f /dev/sdb2

when upgrading to http://snapshot.opera.com/unix/18583_10 ... nux.tar.gz note that you can drag and drop speed dials from the previous version to the newer version.

In this build we have added four features related to HTML5 and other open standards, and an update for a previous implementation:
WebM support for HTML5 video (demo)
HTML5 Offline Web Applications (demo)
Geolocation (demo - only partially implemented on FreeBSD/Linux, more work to come)
Web Workers (demo - might be a slight delay before it starts working)
Major update for Cross-Document Messaging (demo)
choose "Other(TAR) " and "tar.gz" then click extract it.Opera 10.60 beta
We today released the new beta of 10.6.
The focus on this version has been performance and core updates.
We have added some nice web technologies :
WebM, Geolocation, Web Workers, Offline Web Applications, Cross-Document Messaging update etc

That's normal, WebM can't work in opera or any other browser in puppy yet. It needs it's one library which isn't in puppy yet. Barry had said that he was going to compile ffmpeg with WebM support but he hasn't done it yet.aarf wrote:WebM support for HTML5 video: opera 10.60-6363 still wont play youtube if flashplayer path is wrong.
I'm thinking about compiling ffmpeg from git with WebM support but I can't be sure whether it will brake something else, I'll have to find the options Barry is using. Anyway if I won't find them I'll compile it with the default options and release it but it will be big in size. I'll check it later tonight.
something else to note here too : i havent been able to corrupt anything on the sdcard opera partition since jemimah upgraded something in puppeeerc5, ditto for fluppy3.
also opera can be opened from a dragged desktop link in rox using flwm in puppeeerc5 but not in pacmanfm using flwm.
edit: just puppeeeerc5and 6 are ok, fluppy3 still has some corruption problems

I don't recommend using Flash 10.1 on Linux. It's way too slow compared to 10.0. Even 360p YouTube videos are barely watchable with the new version.
It's a bloody CPU hog.
Don't use Flash 10.1 even under Windows if you don't have a DirectX 10.1 graphics card that supports HW flash acceleration to offload the processing.
Adobe didn't optimise Flash 10.1 at all. Quite the opposite : they made the software renderer up to 300% slower with video and just transferred the load to the GPU
There's no HW Flash acceleration on Linux - that means Linux users are getting the worst 'experience' ever.
Even Windows users with older hardware are screwed - they're forced to buy brand new hardware and throw their perfectly usable PCs in the trash.
A 6-year old PC can play Full HD 1080p videos smoothly in a video player, but has major problems with a bloody 360p YouTube video in fullscreen when using Flash 10.1.
Time to switch to HTML5+WEBM and throw Adobe Flash in the trash (the recycle bin) where it really belongs.

file://localhost/usr/share/examples/vector-images/omelette.swf plays in under 5 seconds latest 10,1,53.64 which is comparable to tests done elsewhere by others on here if i remember correctly. micko is working on webM but for my puppeeerc6 it is no go as of now. webM in lupu is a go with chrome but not with opera..panzerpuppy wrote:I don't recommend using Flash 10.1 on Linux.
