Video editing

#1 Post by Lobster »

Cinelerra can be loaded from Puppy Lucid and seems to work OK
I am slowly getting to grips with it
and will [shock horror] possibly even read or find a tutorial
It has been a while for me learning new software
and the learning has been quite steep and I have barely begun . . .
I have also been using Kino in Fatdog and Ubuntu
(awaiting a hopefully soon to be available Kino for Lucid)
Kino seems straightforward and stable

I don't think Hollywood has anything to fear
but this is my first effort of effects and transitions using Kino

I call it 'tramline to reality'

Is anyone else having a go with video editing?
How are you getting on?
Any clips?
Any tips?

FIN

Interesting...

I am going to be editing my pyrotechnic videos in Puppy 4.3.2/Stardust013 using Avidemux or Light House Pup using Kdenlive. I will as so be adding meta data and copyright frames vir the appropriate command line tools, ideas wanted/welcomed.

Pyrotechnics?
That is like a barbecue without the meat?
Sound like fun. We get arrested for that sort of thing here.

My efforts continue . . .

What I wanted to do was add some clips together and a sound track
First of all I tried converting and basically going bonkers . . .
Then I started using KD-Pup which is based on Dpup Beta
and found Avidemix just has an append (add video option)
- easy . . .
I like easy

I then used Ubuntu - which was able to import my ASF files
without conversion

added a free ambient sound track
and created 'Lobster on Bike'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAp-pwEljN0

The first part is jerky because I used the handlebars to steady
(you foolish crustacean)
later on just used the camera about body height
and the shot of the bike was an accident but I added it anyways

Do we  ? That is, do you live in the uk? It depends on what you are doing I believe, according to my science teacher. I should be ok :).

The sad thing is the video is low res :(. Must see about getting high frame rate video camera with decent res 8).

openshot?

#5 Post by gulk »

I wanted to give openshot video editor a try. I've seen some versions around the forum somewhere. I'll try to make an install from the latest but dependencies seem to be quite a pain.

Lobster, are you planning on publishing your movies on DVDs? If yes, what software would you use (I have some non-geeky family members that would only watch home videos on DVD)?

Cheers :)

Action!

Yep I live in the UK
where drinks on planes were confiscated recently
as they might have been pyrotechnical

I must admit that a HD type like this would be my choice
You may need more for slow mo and such

Barely begun
I am experimenting with Avidemux
in Puppy Lucid and managed to splice
some vids and rotate one.

Flip.
Once full you have to download to a computer, as far as I understand.
Their site doesn't mention support for linux.
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

I totally concur... Which is why I got a Kodak Zi6 few years back when I had the choice between this and the Flip. The Zi6 is acting as a usb stick when plugged in. Of course the software that comes with the device is not Linux friendly either

I still didn't get a chance to attempt the openshot install. Hopefully this week-end.

You guys are right - I would not buy a Flip either
but a cheaper generic HD type with the ability to use SD cards
- the pic was for illustration of the type of vid camera I prefer. 8)

I might look for a HD version of the one I use at present - cheap and cheerful
should be about $60-$80
Image

I also have vid capacity on my still camera and this might offer higher res
Still trying to locate the manual . . .

Using Avidemux on Puppy Lucid
(the Puppy 5 version - which was compiled for Dpup) yesterday
I was able to drag in an ASF
then use the {A} {B} markers to clip/delete the bits
where I clicked the start button
or managed to film my clumsy claws
or moved the camera into position.
Dragging one clip into the program - auto appends
Was having difficulty adding a music track
but I now am beginning to feel more confident

Hi smil99,

I actually saw your post before. I just wanted to get the latest openshot version, since there seems to be a large stability gap between 1.0.0 and 1.1.3.

If you are willing to go through the exercise of creating a .pet for 1.1.3, then I won't. Otherwise, I'll do it. Just let me know either way so I can spend more time playing The Mana World

I saw how much effort you put getting the 1.0.0 together, and that cooled me a bit, but I always like some challenge. Anyhow, thanks for the hard work.

Well I did try but got to a point where openshot 1.1.3 starts okay but can't import any file thus rendering it unusable.

I haven't tried since and I wouldn't mind if you have a go at it.

Cheers.

video eciting

#13 Post by Minnesota »

Hi Guys:

A bit of help please. I am looking for a program to create a slide show with music to be stored on a CD. I have hundreds of Jpg files. I just looked at cinelerra for Lucid, but think that is only for editing video clips....or have I misunderstood?

Any assistance will be appreciated.... I am very much a novice at video editing...THANKS. Any program suggestions and on what Puppy will it load and run?

For Lucid - may work in 4.3.1 and other Puppys

Put the files in the enclosed zip in any folder with jpgs and mp3 music

Music will be played in gxine
Jpg Images will be displayed in Viewnior

=== Using ===
F11 full screen
arrow keys or space for next image
f5 for slideshow

'Imagination' is a DVD slideshow maker and it has lots of photo transitions as well as other simple settings to play with. Use the PPM to find and install it.
I am sure you will find it useful if you don't mind having to burn a DVD instead of a CD.

Cheers.

Did you google on libsox library already?
I am sure you'll find it.

And on to 'Openshot' - currently being ported to Puppy
- please test and see if it works for you
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 272#422272

This program and kino seem the best so far.
Kino messed up my audio - it went all out of synch
- I quite like the arty effect
but Openshot worked as expected

I have only used Openshot in Ubuntu
but Ubuntuday
Puppy Lucid tomorrow . . .

Basically the procedure was:
  • drag in clips
    drag clips to track positions
    press + for more tracks
right click on added track for effects and fades
    export video
Even a fish could do it

finding a dependency

#19 Post by Minnesota »

Béèm :

Sorry to feel so stupid, but it is pure ignorance... I have a lot of years in this business... but am very much a newbe to Linux... so can you give me more explicit instructions on just what to look for and how to find the dependency and where does it get loaded....

I have abandoned quite a few attempts to get things running in the past.. because I just do not understand all the guts.. or should I say fine points of trying to get a program to work on a specific version of puppy.

For me a Google search gives me dozens of references and lots of information I really do not understand.. even entering what I think I specifically want.. that is..."libsox.so.1 library", where does it need to be stored to work right.

If you have the time.. I would appreciate the help.. THANKS. Greg

You can get Openshot here: http://www.smokey01.com/pets/openshot_p ... -1.0.0.pet

And you will need to install python also. http://www.smokey01.com/pets/python-2.5.2.pet

This works fine in lupu 5.0.
