Re: torrent

Correct me if I'm wrong but, md5 of the downloaded torrent indicates that it is the first (RC1) of the lupu-500.iso's that's being seeded. I guess it's only the release notes left out, though .....

Used the piratebay torrent (national heroes here in my country) and am seeding at approx. 120kB.

Cheers :)/

The md5 I posted is the one in first post. Thanks for seeding!

'Cause iso doesn't match md5 from first thread as you can see
Bytesize given at thepiratebay matches size of RC1.

Is RC3 going to be the release version?

I can confirm what TubeGuy just posted.
Lucid Puppy 500 -> http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy500/lupu-500.iso
md5sum -> e85a6b08e52c551871c84daefa9f8695
from the 1st page of this thread is correct in that the md5sum matches the download.

OK, I haven't followed development thread or took part but if I understand well Barry announced latest iso as official and md5sum of downloaded iso doesn't match with it am I correct so far? I already gave links to local forums for torrent download, if they're wrong I'm gonna leave only links to official mirrors.

Are we talking torrent download here?
Cause there's scenario that my download went wrong cause mine doesn't match or scenario that we have wrong iso seeding?

All my fault. I plead inexperience and ignorance.

These are the md5sums in ibiblio and in diddywahdiddy.net in the first message of this thread..These are the correct ones. At least if someone has gotten the wrong one they will have no problem--it was just a typo. Live and learn I guess. I did not stop to think that the process was already in motion.

Yes, the md5sum in the first page matches the ones from running md5sum on the isos from both diddywahdiddy and ibiblio, but not the iso from the piratebaytorrent (md5 and filesize for the piratebay iso matches those of rc1).

I will gladly chip in with seeding for the correct release version :).

Re: Unpopulated warning dialog when unmounting drives

chrisdev wrote:...If I click on the sda3 drive icon to mount it, and then click in that window on pup_save.2fs to mount it, it is successful. Although the pup_save.2fs icon doesn't show a green dot or other indicator that it is mounted.

Hi, just want to say I reproduced this error, in a different scenario, running the current lupu-500.iso (md5sum e85a6b0...9f8695).

* Modern Powerspec desktop w/ two CD drives
* Booted lupu-500 with pfix=ram
* Inserted lupu-117.iso in other CD drive
* Clicked on sr1 to mount it, then on lupu-117.sfs to mount it
* (No green dot or other indicator that lupu-117.sfs was mounted)
* Closed the two windows and right-clicked sr1 icon to unmount it

Same 'PLEASE PRESS THE "" BUTTON!' warning box as I previously screenshot.

For what it's worth, the iso in the torrents is the same lupu-500.iso I downloaded from diddywahdiddy last night (about 12 hours ago).

New thread for Lucid Puppy 5.0 Bug Reports and Bug Fixes

There is an "official" thread for Bug Reports and Bug Fixes now under Bugs (Submit Bugs) because that is where new users will probably look first. It would be good to use that one for bugs and bugfixes to keep everything in one place--and use this thread for continued discussion. Thank you.

Yes, there is nothing really wrong with it so if someone gets it there won't be any terrible consequences.

Yes dejan555, I screwed up. However, what Barry announced in his blog was exactly correct (files and md5sums) and what was in the first message of this forum was correct when Barry made the announcement. What I did not know out of inexperience and ignorance was that some people would have already started the process. I have apologized to them and I apologize to you. You can be sure this mistake will not happen again. Thanks for whatever you can do to make it easy to download Lucid Puppy.

Two new fresh frugal installs of Lucid Puppy 5.00 went smoothly.The old P3 test box required the usual tweaks in the First Run Wizard while the install on my main Linux box was even easier. At first boot the only thing I needed to change was the time zone........everything else was correct out of the box. :)

Great job to everyone involved......

Agreed, so I'm still seeding the RC1 through the piratebay tracker.

The iso torrented through linuxtracker is the latest (RC3), seeding that one too.

Firefox & gxine & QuickTime video

#1034 Post by chrisdev »

I have no idea if this is important, or has anything to do with default Lucid Puppy settings. But Firefox+gxine seem to have trouble with embedded QuickTime videos, whereas gxine on its own plays the video files fine.

If I go to apple.com, it won't show me embedded quicktime video. It says "download QuickTime here" or some such.

If I go to http://askaninja.com/TEDvideo?video=quicktime , the embedded video area of the page says "gxine browser plugin" in plain white text. Meanwhile, gxine pops up in its own window, along with a separate error box:

"Error from the xine engine
The xine engine failed to start.
No demuxer found - stream format not recognized."

If I _download_ the video, in .mp4 format, gxine plays it fine.

haven't had to drop to a command line for anything. Are you sure this is based on Puppy? (Just kidding Barry, all your hard work is finally paying off. I can't see anything competing with Puppy now.)
drongo, One thing I love about Puppy is that it doesn't pretend not to be Linux. Whether or not you go to the command line you have the tools to operate your machine in the Linux fashion. For instance, with pmount I can mount and unmount devices--it is the same operation whether at the command line or with the gui. And imho, it is the operation that is important, not necessarily the way of doing it. Linux users understand that drives must be mounted--so they understand more of how their machine works. In Rox there is an option to change permissions to make a file executable. I always use that--I would have to look up the command line. But same deal, I understand about permissions whether using the command line or the gui. Thanks.

audacity pet creation from debian package

#1036 Post by don570 »

continuation of my research in how to make audacity work in lupu 117
as first documented in
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 220#417220
I was able to make an Audacity pet using an unconventional
method using unrpm-undeb-dir2sfs.pet
(http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=37107) to convert
a debian package to a folder, then merging two folders together to get a
bigger folder. I started by downloading
the package audacity_1.3.12-2_i386.deb (available from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/i386 ... y/1.3.12-2)
I converted the package to a folder.
(with the command 'undeb audacity_1.3.12-2_i386.deb')
I gradually merged in the following packages(i.e. folders)in this order:
libiconv-1.13.pet
libjack0_0.118+svn3796-1ubuntu2_i386.deb
libwxgtk2.8-0_2.8.10.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
libwxbase2.8-0_2.8.10.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
libflac++6_1.2.1-2build2_i386.deb
libsoundtouch1c2_1.3.1-2_i386.deb
libvamp-hostsdk3_2.1-1_i386.deb
libtwolame0_0.3.12-1_i386.deb
The order of the merging probably doesn't make any difference.
I made a pet with the command 'dir2pet audacity-1.3.12-lupu',
creating audacity-1.3.12-lupu.pet. It will only work in lupu.
The pet is available at http://www.esnips.com/web/lupu

Too bad the ISO isn't accompanied by the Woof used to build lupu, I'm really impressed.

I'd like to help with future versions. :cry:

@iguleder

Barry usually makes an announcement on his blog whenever the latest Woof is uploaded. That usually happens shortly after the ISO has been uploaded.

You'll then be able to download and set up the Lupu Woof tree on your local machine, which will allow you to build a customised version of Lupu.

Cheers

You're wrong. Files from playdayz's computer (his copy of Woof) don't get magically uploaded to Barry's.

Woof in its current state contains only some generic selection of packages that sits somewhere between 4.3.1 and a basic upup. Things like Quickpet are not included.

@iguleder

When developers make a new build of Puppy it has always been the case that they upload the latest build tree to some place or other so that others can access it if they need to.

Since Lupu is an official build, the final Woof tree used to build the release version should end up at ibiblio.org in due course.

I remember this was a requirement from the time I built Puppy 2.16CE. Back then it was an Unleashed tree.
