lovely *.deb's
lovely *.deb's
Hi
In the new Puppy / Querky / Fatdog64 versions you can probably install directly *.deb's from the official Debian depositories !
We will hunt under them those needing no or really few dependencies in our favorite Puppy's and inform in this thread the other Puppy users, that the program STARTS or is extensive TESTED on your PC as indicated in your forum user profile in the line "location".
Example:
QUIRKY 1.0 [ url ]http://packages.debian.org/lenny/i386/clex[ /url ] STARTS [ url=http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/profil ... file&u=107 ]oui[ /url ]
Please use the line "subject description" to inform in short form about the kind of program.
Bye

see The Ciao Prolog Development System WWW Site

I have on my hard disk the (only) 4 following *.deb but can't remember the special depository (external from official site of ciao prolog). after remastering you can probably hold it completely in RAM and have a very efficient and fast prolog development system with extensions to generate automaticly HTML code!
ciao-prolog_1.13+svn20080125-1_i386.deb
ciao-prolog-doc_1.13+svn20080125-1_all.deb

Hi dejan
zim
a very perfectionated personal wiki like didiwiki but with high power: you don't need to click on edit to write etc...
you have a lot of dependencies to install to discover after one or two hours that you don't reach your goal.
my idea is to reference only stuff working immediately without dependency problems at all
it would be really silly dilly to produce a *.pet for somewhat already existing and working perfectly : you don't want to rediscover the wheel probably?
fatdog64 has only a few 64 bit software.
the way to use directly *.deb would make the access to a better equipment very shorter.
@iguleder: what is the difference between
- debian packages now
and
- slackware packages (official puppy linux position for puppy 3.nn !)?
please use your brain for something else as your hut!
hm ...
bye
Try only to install:dejan555 wrote:You know how much packages debian has in repo, we're gonna list them one post each?

The difference is big. DEB packages are not supposed to work on the Puppies you mentioned, while 3.x's main feature was Slackware compatibility.oui wrote:@iguleder: what is the difference between

Besides, there is no way to use DEB packages properly besides including either APT or some reverse-engineered-APT-like-thing-written-in-gtkdialog-for-PPM.
Bottom line: on Puppy, use PETs. And don't spam the forums with lists of "compatible" packages because people can find out all these things on their own. I really hope you don't intend to check all the 24,000 packages available in the Debian repo ... both for you and the Puppy community

Hi Iguleder
As I see, you are only a little year joined at puppy forum and probably at puppy (I use puppy since version 0.7n!). Puppy did always support *.deb's and *.rpm's
see here
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/System_Utilities/
dotpup package : unrpm.undeb.pup
what are being to invente for complications...
Puppy is free ware, using free sources from slackware first and now from debian. The management for *.deb is a goal of the new development of the 4.nn and more 5.nn versions.
Will you really put Puppy into a prison
Good day Iguleder...

Well, I know you CAN use debs and I don't mind listing what works but I just don't find this way of posting effective post per package/link/one line of text lol forum is already under heavy load many times it's unresponsive and with this sort of threads will soon become unreadable.

A package is just an archive that contains binaries. Those binaries are largely compatible with any system that has the right dependencies and architecture.
Another point, I'm registered only for one year, that's correct. BUT, I had another account before, I just forgot its password. If that's not enough, I'm using Puppy since 4.0.
If you're trying to prove me that you're smarter, here's another fact, I'm building a distro and I know the correct definition of "package".
I'm out of this silly discussion.
Define what "support " means.oui wrote: Puppy did always support *.deb's and *.rpm's
