Howdy All,
In 115, pfix=ram, installed virtualbox-3.1_k2.6.30.5.pet.
Restarted X, have menu entry at system/ sys. stat. & config/
sun virtualbox. Nothing executes after clicking.
Looks like a great distro coming up.
Thanx much. jw

I know, I know... a late inclusion...but we must include this 20kB game from jemimah..
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=406533#406533
It is the best bang for byte game I have seen! Even I can play it!
(oh, yeah, Lobster, my son has Clan Bomber figured out, he likes it...)
Cheers

Success, I just tried a custom remaster of my frugal installation. The remaster program worked perfectly on first try. Just had to have a little fun. It's running great.
Cheers,
Jim

Anyway to save wireless settings? |
|
Running 116 from a flash drive on my Aspire One D-150.
Since in 115, I couldn't get settings to save in the normal network setup, so this time I tried the simple network setup. Works and set up my wireless very quickly, but doesn't save settings when I reboot.
Also, the LxMusic player in the quickpet may have a problem. The tools menu doesn't work. I'm trying to set the player in random mode but can't find it.

116 network wizard (classic) is broken for wlan Wifi-- fails to produce a window from which networks can be scanned or chosen.

YES! YES!
Barry's nvidia pet
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/quirky/pet_packages-5/nvidia-195.36.15-k2.6.33.2.pet
has solved the desktop shift. Wonderful, thank you.
So all that remains from my point of view, is maintaining the pppoe connection during shutdown and reboot.
In other Puppies making a symlink to pppoe-start_shell in /root/Startup does this. Not so in Lupu.
This is not a really big deal, but very inconvenient.

116 jwm.pet installed
quickpet on gprs connection (doesnt require -4), has managed to download and install clanbomber after i changed the preference to diddywadiddy.net
"hurry up or i will kill you" among other exploding aspects fails my violence aversion preferences so i will not be a dedicated player of clanbomber.
pwidgets also downloaded from ibiblio.org to the quickpet download folder but i have it installed already so not sure if it would have proceeded to full install, after auto resuming after the red "error failed download message. "

thanks for the link. and this part.
maintaining the pppoe connection during shutdown and reboot.

"We" need to fix that one don't loose connection to internet. Very annoying.
I had that problem for month and got very upset about it and then somebody described that SNS solved it and I got happy again and in Q1 now it never lose connection but in Lupu it does each 30 minutes despite using SNS
so Lupu need to learn from Q1

LuPu is showing off as an extremely promising Puppy project -- kudos and thanks Playdayz & all involved.
One little hitch: installed Chromium with Quickpet, all went fine, all menus are localized (yippeee). Tried Opera: same success (2nd yippeee). Tried Firefox: works OK but menus stay in English... glab .
Either the localized files should be downloaded separately (and automatically) or some option has to be set at compile time for Firefox -- if it works with Chrome and Opera, it ought to work with everything else.
Sure, that's a wholly new feature and it'll take some time to work out, but IMHO it's a must, at least with what is offered by Quickpet (though I'm pressing my non-English-speaking friends to learn English quickly!).
To be perfect, Quickpet itself should have separate, localized menu files -- as soon as that's possible I'm ready to tranlsate 'em into Italian and French.
**Added: after uninstalling Opera the free savefile space doesn't get back to its earlier size -- seem to remember it was OK after uninstalling Chromium and Firefox. Will test again with a fresh savefile.**

Quickpet takes me here to download java
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=183025#183025
Does it work in Lucid 116?
Not for me . . .
I am using Firefox
Does the JRE need recompiling?
Do I need to turn on Java somewhere - could not find anywhere in preferences (not javascript - that is on anyway)
. . . gonna see if I can find a java sfs
Nope none of that found

Lobster,
There is definitely something wrong with Java and Firefox. I was working on it yesterday. Java works in Seamonkey, Chromium, Opera and I even tested google-chrome and Iron. I am almost certain it is a Firefox issue. I also grabbed the latest update 20 from the Java site, same results. I may change that link to the official Java site. I can't seem to download coolpup's pet, it keeps breaking for me.
As I understand, this Firefox is just the static build from the Firefox site.(I could be wrong though).
Lucid Lynx Ubuntu has had their fair share of problems with Java too. There are many google hits.
Firefox 3.6.4 is due out soon, hopefully Java is fixed.
Cheers

1. Had been experiencing [and reported in the Quirky thread] random crashing of Firefox-3.6.3 in Puppies:
BoxPup-413
Quirky-100
Lupu-116
2. BarryK said he would be updating [and also supplying a PET for] Quirky to include newer version of Sqlite.
coolpup sent a PM with a link to this webpage.
3. Used appropriate versions there for:
BoxPup-413: was v3.4.2, now v3.6.23.1-p4.
Quirky-100: was v3.4.2 [I think=not sure=didn't use a command to check, only PPM], now v3.6.23.1-q.
4. Lupu-116: is now v3.6.22
Should I use [perhaps?] v3.6.23.1-p5?
...Or wait for BarryK to supply a different version?
5. So far I've seen no more crashes of Firefox in BoxPup, Quirky, or even in Lupu->[time will tell].
