Sound Not Working on Clean 1.0.7 Install

#1 Post by edoc »

No Sound in 1.0.7 clean pc install.

Xproc - System Information is blank.

Snack Tone Gen. complains: "Could not gain access to /dev/sound/dsp ..."

I know I wrestled with this on another pc but cannot find those notes.

Thanks! doc

Have you tried installing ALSA? (Read the whole thread before commencing.) It solved all my sound problems.

After attempting to get ndiswrapper working I now again have lost
sound on my wife's pc. It is not the first time that loading ndiswrapper
has created unrelated problems, which is one of the reasons I try to
avoid it.

Below is the error message from the Snack Tone generator app.
Does it shed any light on what may have happened?

Meanwhile I am going to try reloading ALSA on the assumption that
while wrestling with ndiswrapper something related to ALSA was
corrupted.

Thanks! doc
