do not know if it is better in any way
The only thing that I know is definitely better is that radeonhd will do 16-bits. I have tried some timings and they look similar.

BTW, I am looking at gxine video now--I would gladly defer to anyone who knew what they were doing. I am going to assume first that some codecs are missing, or dependencies for some codecs. It is an interesting theoretical problem, but i believe RealPlayer is very good with playing videos. They have been behaving decently for the last 10 years ;-) One program with all the codecs appeals to me over one program with 30 independent codecs. But RealPlayer does not play ogg and flac audio so it is no good to me for that. I might add it to Quickpackage, but we also want to fix gxine.

Quick live test of Lucid 000, automatically recognized and set correct resolution (1024x768) with the onboard S3 graphics prosavage. Will try it on other equipment later........ :)

Quick live test of Lucid 000 on my old P3 test box with onboard Intel 810 graphics..........automatic recognition resulted in a totally incorrect screen resolution.Running "xrandrshell" in the terminal resulted in only 2 choices.....800x600 and 640x480.....instead of my normal 1024x768.
Thankfully you made the xorgwizard pet available..... :)

Frugal installation of 000 on an ext3 partition. Graphics, sound, and printer set up flawlessly on my hardware.

Should further tests focus on 000 or 008?

Cheers,
Jim :D

Good question. They are almost identical except for the automatic X setup in 000, and a bug fix or two. Another question is which should 009 have--xorgwizard or the automatic setup. I am working on getting the best of both worlds--automatic unless that doesn't work, then easy fix and/or xorgwizard can be run itself. After the automatic setup, xrandr can be run to adjust resolution and/or xorgwizard can be run to fix anything broken. Look for that in 009 on Thursday or Friday.

Yes James C, I think that is basically how it will work--first, the auto config and then on first boot xrandrshell will open on the desktop for any needed adjustments in resolution--otherwise it is just informative. If xrandrshell doesn't work, then xorgwizard will be available (xorgwizard is ignored on first boot, but after that it sticks--as you said).

Thanks Lobster, ASF and mp4 are video, and mp3 and ogg are audio, yes? I mean I know that I am just getting clear.

Are there others that users should expect?

Gxine should be playing those audio formats, mine is, plus m4a and flac, which are important to me.

briefly . . .

mp3 is audio, with mp4 being for audio and video

ogg can be both audio only AND audio and video
so you can convert mp4 to ogg

Hi all

I have made some changes to quickpackage, nothing too drastic. Just some bugfixes and some changes on the update page.

This will be the first real test of the updating system.

Click the lucid puppy update button on the last page and you will notice a new entry on the web page.

Click yes in the first dialog window and you will get the update, also including the libfaad fix.

Feedback please. :)

Cheers

I just updated the UD (L?)-04 thing-y under Lucid 008. The update happened gracefully and fast.

Does this mean I now have Lucid-000?

/etc/puppyversion still says 008.

the code is running in puppy browser

Code: Select all

file:///tmp/lucidpupupdate.html
it is telling me this:
The latest available update for Lucid Puppy is currently lucid_puppy_UD-0.4.pet April 20, 2010
but it is only offering to install
lucid_puppy_UD-0.3.pet

So not getting the 0.4

I am running an updated (I think 007) but using 000 as the CD base

I did it: it's OK. Thanks

@playdayz,
Lucid 008,
About Nvidia, and GeForce card with a jerky video screen under Flash.,
I modified the screen resolution through 'xorgwizard' and put
1600 x 1200 x 24 (OK for monitor, maybe NOT OK for card) .
and now it's OK for me :D
I get a very cool screen video :D , hight stream.
( Test: http://medici.tv and low or hight stream)
24 is the best for me!

Thanks James, Lobster, SHS and Tasgarth for testing

Lobster, I just tested pfix=ram on 000 and it worked fine, maybe the old save file is interfering.

SHS, the plan is for the update to be comprehensive, but at the moment we are just testing that it works. You'll always have 008 no matter how many updates are applied, but the idea is that all the goodies in a later version can be installed with ease in an early version (well kind of the idea).

The new wiki page won't show up until I make another update, but it works in my preliminary testing exactly the same as the current page,

The script actually downloads the webpage because a limitation of PuppyBrowser is that you can't download by just clicking on a link. Once the page is downloaded and parsed then the window pops up. On the wki page, at the top I put a bold notice saying this so the user, so long as he/she reads the page will expect the popup.

Here's the page you will soon be seeing when you click the update button. http://puppylinux.org/wikka/LucidPuppyUpdate

Cheers

Hi, All!
How can I compile commercial nvidia drivers for my geforce fx5700?
I downloaded devx sfs and kernel sources sfs and nvidia driver itself.
but when I try to execute nvidia-file it's fails with:
"The CC version check failed:
The compiler used to compile the kernel (gcc 4.3) does not exactly match the current compiler (gcc 4.4)...."
ahh... the happiness was so close...
