Any ideas what this is flooding xerrs.log "/sbin/pup_event_frontend_d: line 780: diff: not found" ?

opening pup_event_frontend_d line 780 is "done #2 second loop"

Deleting it stops the flooding of xerrs.log instead there is just one entry "/sbin/pup_event_frontend_d: line 780: syntax error: unexpected end of file (expecting "done")"

What does "done #2 second loop" do, is it safe to delete?

@stu90,

No it is not safe to delete. That is part of the code construct. I am not running Lucid but diff is apparently missing from /usr/bin.

Type 'which diff' (without the quotes) in a terminal & see if it reports the location of diff.

Hello 2byte, which diff doesn't comeback with anything in the terminal.

diff is part of the gnu-utilities so most likely you can just copy it over from another recent Puppy version. On my 4.12 system there is diff, diff3, and diffstat in /usr/bin.

This is something that needs to be addressed in the Lucid Puppy system build.

2byte,
I just copied diff, diff3, over to lucid6 from 4.3.2 v3
typing which diff in terminal now returns /usr/sbin/diff

just added "done #2 second loop" back to pup_event_frontend_d and rebooted and no entries in xerrs.log

thanks.

Thanks 2byte and stu90! :)

I copied over the diff and diff3 from my ubuntu karmic9.10 partition to /usr/bin and now the xerrs.log is normal. I had disabled pup_event_ frontend by unchecking "tickbox for desktop hotplug support" in the "Puppy Event Manager" to quiet things down before. Its reenabled now and things are back to normal.

Show stopper! For me anyway. I just did a manual frugal install and this is the first Puppy ever, since 2.10, that fails to auto detect my smartlink modem! This is a older pci modem specifically designed to be linux compatible too. I hope this can be addressed for the 007 release.

Lupu 006 doesn't appear to work with virtual box. I don't have a spare machine for tests either.

1. Pwidgets doesn't work properly on Lucid puppy 007. It needs libidn.so.11 which links to libidn.so.11.5.34.

Works fine after these are placed in lib. 01micko has posted a link.

Yes it's a deb, will install straight in.
2. Songbird doesn't play itunes music libraries, haven't tried other file types. Amarok works well with itunes.

Abiword - docx problem

#32 Post by gjuhasz »

Nice job! A few notes only:

"Announcement and release notes for 0.0.7" - the announcement text forgotten from /usr/share/doc/release-0.0.7.htm file.

Seamonkey v1.1.18 does not run, in spite of seamonkey-1.1.18 folder contains 23 MB data. It could be executed in 006, out-of the box.

Puppy browser is already included in the sfs, available when clicking on Help icon. It should also be the "defaultbrowser" until running Quickpackage.

Abiword 2.8.2 in 007 does not support accented letters when saved as docx. However, they are OK in all the rest formats (doc, abw, rtf, pdf, ps, etc). UTF and hu_HU set. This problem appears in ttuuxxx's 4.3.2-V3, too.

I have the ati radeonHD installed so this needs to be confirmed
but the only test video file that played in Puppy Lucid 008
was an mpg from puppy-reference/video
Some such as asf are playing sound only in gxine
when clicked on

thanks 01micko - typed this in at the console

Code: Select all

ln -s /usr/lib/libfaad.so.2.0.0 /usr/lib/libfaad.so.0
now I can play files by dragging onto gxine (play icon) from rox
(but not yet by just clicking on them)

Flash is working (and no longer crashing the system)
however . . . :?

the flash file on this page is very crisp
and clear - plays well
until I click the full screen button - it then becomes choppy
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/ap ... -tv-advert

Thanks everyone - Lucid Puppy is getting there - do we have a later Flash or earlier compiled? :)

Latest Flash available here (thanks to Coolpup for reminding me)
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/FlashPlayer
works in Lucid. Better? Maybe a little but it is a Flash problem
- not Puppy or Browser - It is Adobe and Flash proprietary code

rox filer focus bug

#40 Post by upnorth »

I noticed that when right clicking on a file and selecting properties, after closing the popup box, the file is still selected. This is the "rox filer focus bug". The conditional put in /etc/profile doesn't seem to work properly with the current /root/.packages/woof-installed-packages and might need some tweeking. I don't know if it is functional in q19 or not, but the gtk there is 2.16 so it would't matter there yet.

this is from /etc/profile:

Code: Select all

#100208 rox-filer needs this for GTK >= 2.18, fixes focus problem...
if [ `grep -E '^gtk+-2|libgtk2.0' /root/.packages/woof-installed-packages | head -n 1 | cut -f 3 -d '|' | cut -f 2 -d '.'` -ge 18 ];then
 export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true
fi
added this for workaround

Code: Select all

#============================
export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true
#============================
--------------------------------------
to test, when the following is entered in console it returns true, before it returned blank
# echo $GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS
true
The newest rox version has this fixed but is still untested sourcecode
