Alternative MBR's
Are any of these alternative MBR's with a menu for booting relevant or useful? Have we already covered this?

hadn't seen the page you referenced before. But the install-to-USB stick could benefit from some of this.
The syslinux call at the end of install-to-USB installs a _patch_ to the MBR. If there's no MBR there at all, this does no good. Similarly, if there's a FreeBSD MBR there, the patch won't work either. (ask me how I know this...)
A hack of the install script to add option to dd one of these entire MBRs to the USB stick might be the appropriate fix (I got one at http://rz-obrian.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de/knoppix-usb which did the trick ... twice) _________________ Rex Buddenberg
