Lucid Puppy 002 - Bug Reports
Lucid Puppy 002 - Bug Reports
This will be the forum to post bug reports on Lucid Puppy 002. I will write up some guidelines asap. Once the bug is reported the process should be that people look here for a bug and then investigate it and find a fix. When the fix is found, please post the Bug plus the fix in another forum named Lucid Puppy Bug Reports + Fixes. That way I will be able to work primarily from the second forum and implement the fixes.

Nouveau video drivewr
The nouveau xorg driver is removed from lucid 002 because it gets assigned to all nvidia cards, most of which do not then work. I will post the nouveau_drv as a pet so that some people with Nvidia cards can install it and look for a solution. Later today I hope.

Strange - never seen this before
On booting the screen went very pale (including the text modes)
about the time the xorgwizard would be run
Had to turn screen contrast and brightness right up
changed to vesa - was OK and then ran xorgwizard again
Everything OK again this is what is currently driving my screen

Ndiswrapper seems broken with k2.6.31.5. Reported to Barry. Tried to fix myself but I wasn't good enough in this case.

Puppy Package Manager
This is not a bug per se but it is something people might want to work on. When Lucid Puppy is released I would like to have a list of well-tested and excellent programs ready to one-click install in the Puppy Package Manager. Things like Iron, Firefox 3.6.x, and Opera 10.50 if it is released by then. Examples are in the first message of the Karmic Puppy thread, but what we want now would be pets with the menu working and so forth. Wine would be another. There would be many possibilities. Amarok would be something there would be an interest in I know.
If you make any of these pets, please post a link in the Bug Fixes forum and people can test it from there and I can add it to the repo. Thanks.
The preference would be to build these programs with Lucid Lynx binaries, in the case of programs such as Wine, Amarok, and so forth.

My radeon 3850 does exactly this also.Running 24bit colour results in black background to icons in the jwm menu. ( i read this might be a jwm problem?)
Running 16bit colour results in no black background on jwm icons but puts a dark green tint on the entire screen.
Does anyone know of any workarounds to the black background on icons, just in case?

In the xorg.conf I just change the 24 to 16 in the section "screen" and restart X.playdayz wrote:My radeon 3850 does exactly this also.Running 24bit colour results in black background to icons in the jwm menu. ( i read this might be a jwm problem?)

P.S. Does the bugs reported already earlier in the "former" thread be repeated here or do you take them into account?

Hi there. Wouldn't normally test this but read on Barry's blog that he is intending to release this into wild in short time.
Very first impression and some bugs:
1) Video is terrible on my Radeon 9250 (same thing happend with quirky 009? I think I solved it by replacing generated xorg.conf with one from dpup but that didn't fix the problem here) When I say "terrible" I mean that I can literally see how windows are drawn when they start up or maximize/minimize, there's much lag when scrolling pages in browser, same with rubix cube or gxine visualizations.
2) When I exited X from menu (Exit to prompt) it output some error not sure if it's important:
3) This is actually bug which is not specific only for this version but in many versions and has been mentioned but noone payed attention: If you setup GPRS modem thru pgprs-setup wizard (Connect icon -> Internet by wireless GPRS modem) and leave PIN field empty you can't get to dialog again because it has error:
I fixed this for dpup it's just a small workaround in one file to set number if variable is empty so gtkdialog does not error, here's fixed pet: pgprs-1.3-patched.pet
4) This is actually another bug common to all puppy versions that has been mentioned:
If you type different password when retyping in xlock setup dialog xlock actually takes the second one even if it doesn't match.
5) nicoedit also outputs some error when started from terminal:
BTW, why left out geany?
6) My keyboard or something just went nuts it started typing "ddddddddddd" even if I didn't touch it
I guess that's why there's "hack_for_keyboard.txt" in /root ?

First boot, no pupsave
Abiword still crashes when selecting "Format- Create or modify styles"
You tube video falters when going full screen with low frame rate (video jerky). Plays ok if not full screen.
Seamonkey display jumps around and then stabilizes when switching pages and sometimes just setting it flickers.
So I assume this is a video problem with the xorg version. (Just guessing).
I also get flicker on HULU.
My video is Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE. , PC has 3 gigs ram.

When I change to radeonhd driver X doesn't start at all.Can you change driver = radeon in xorg.conf to driver = radeonhd

The black backgrounds in icons in JWM has been fixed in Quirky. Coolpup found it is the version of the 'pixman' package:

have only pwidgets2.2.5.pet and pixman-0.17.14-lupu.pet
x24 colour, yes they haven't got black backgrounds but....
edit: quirky010 with pixman-0.17.14-q.pet and pwidgets2.2.5 is exactly the same.
