Scribus: QT4-based desktop publisher |
|
http://www.scribus.net/
Quote: | Scribus is an Open Source program that brings award-winning professional page layout to Linux/UNIX, Mac OS X, OS/2 Warp 4/eComStation and Windows desktops with a combination of "press-ready" output and new approaches to page layout. Underneath the modern and user friendly interface, Scribus supports professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, Spot Colors, ICC color management and versatile PDF creation. |
I've uploaded a .pet here(8685kbytes): scribus-1.3.6.pet
It needs QT4, (newer than the version in puppy's repository), so I've uploaded a .pet here(5979kbytes): qt-4.5.3.pet
It also needs python, & it seems OK with either python-2.5.2.pet or Python-2.5.pup
Run with Menu>Graphic>Scribus
For non-English languages install this (5937kbytes): scribus-NLS-1.3.6.pet

Hi muggins just wondering if its stable ? In the past newer releases tend to crash a lot.
How's this one been running?

Hello ttuxxx,
like most things I post...(perhaps unwise)...I've done minimal testing as I'm not a major user of these things...I just find compiling some things a way to while away a few hours, like doing crossword puzzles! At least I can confirm that scribus works with the text insertion thingy!

Installed here, along with the updated Qt4 libs, but it fails to run with the following error:
Code: | scribus: symbol lookup error: scribus: undefined symbol: _ZNK7QString7indexOfER7QRegExpi

I just replicated this error, using pup412. Firstly i installed the scribus pet, , then qt-4.5.3.pet, then received above error, when running scribus from commandline. Then I uninstalled qt4-4.3.2.pet, but still getting error, then saw that /opt/qt4 directory still existed, so deleted it, and scribus ran.

Thanks! I just did what you did, and Scribus 1.36 now runs here.
I figured it was something on that line. The newer Qt libs were installed, but it appears they weren't the ones Scribus 1.36 was looking at.

There's also a qt3 version that works well if your having issues with QT4, located at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=335989&sid=a0e23916ea6953c0aa713a218541c1b2

All seems good with scribus but I've quickly realised you can't do much with only the default fonts. I've tried a couple of .pets and got font files in the /usr/share/fonts directory but no joy in using them (in scribus or Abiword). Any links to more info as I seem to be getting dead ends and I assume I'm just missing some easy setting to update the system?

after a bit more digging I found this http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=44882&search_id=67915381
don't know what it did that I hadn't tried but with DTP and fonts I can really put my puppy to work.
cheers.
