evince

Using the buntu lib:
Code:
sh-3.00# ldd /usr/lib/evince/1/backends/libdvidocument.so
/usr/lib/evince/1/backends/libdvidocument.so: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.7' not found (required by /usr/lib/evince/1/backends/libdvidocument.so)
Nothing else missing, according to ldd-output.
I guess no dvi-viewing with evince ..... Ah, well I still have xdvi ...

cheers Smile/

Hi Clarf could you try this one please, Its hiawatha v7 and I made a menu for it, you'll find it under menu/Internet
Also version 7 already has the fixes you talked about in the forum plus, no need for man pages because they are online and part of gui I made up, I also added a few parts of etc so there wouldn't be a need to adduser -h /root/Web-Server webuser

Hi ttuuxxx,

I didn´t tried v7 before cause Hugo Leisink added experimental Remote Monitoring support, that needs another component (Hiawatha monitor) and this new feature could add some bugs, whereas v6 branch is very stable now...

Anyway I tried your version ttuuxxx, some feedback:

- Nice menu, seems that you hacked some icons Very Happy

- You are not using a Service initialization script, I like the script in /etc/init.d cause if you are using a public webserver and for a electrical problem or any-other problem the server machine is rebooted, you need to ensure Hiawatha is automatically initialized without admin manual check (and I already modified BootManager to control those Services Wink ). A short idea you could leave the hiawatha.run script (without changes, I mean keep status and check code please, something that is really necessary and the reason for my comments in Barry´s blog) in /etc/init.d and make a symlink to /usr/bin in this way you can have it available to admin tasks (using command line) and still use it in your nice GUI...

- In my tests the Webserver was initiated with a "nobody" user (default), the reason to create a new user "webuser" with the /root/Web-Server home is: Security control and to restrict accesses for Hiawatha (like in FTP Server). To start Hiawatha with the "webuser" user you have to add the "ServerId" parameter in the hiawatha.conf file.

- The WebsiteRoot parameter should be /root/Web-Server for the same security reason, then the /var/www/hiawatha directory is unnecessary, although this kind of route seems to be standard for many Webservers like Apache...

hope it works fine, also please if you compile things, could you make them i386, that's the norm for 2.14X Smile Barry like i486. Smile

hmmm, I have very old hardware, the oldest one is a First class Pentium (60 MHz) and I haven´t seen a 386 PC in ages (not one that works)... But I could recompile it for 214X.

Hi Clarf
Second time writing the message, lol hit the back button and the closed the page , lol
So I'll be quick,
Ok I'm in the middle of making the Final 2.14X, It took me many of hours building that little gui and working out how to save the user from needing to adduser -h /root/Web-Server webuser .
What I propose is that If you have the time, build or fix which ever 6,7 doesn't bug me which one as long as it works and uses my gui Smile for the menu, I really would like to have the adduser -h /root/Web-Server webuser already done, that's why the 4 extra files I placed in /etc.
same with /dev/null has full permissions
Basically I would like it if a user hits start from the menu it starts, none of this changing permissions and typing code before hitting a start button Smile Man I like making things simple for people. Then you get less questions like, how do you do this?? etc
I can't really stop in the middle of making this update and revert back to server, it could messup a lot of work.
Hope you can lend a hand
ttuuxxx

Oh as i386 goes, well Its a long story but, lf i386 is good enough for Ubuntu/Debian as its default compile, Its good enough for me Smile
Actually if you ever compared the resources from the vlc package I made to what Gxine/Mplayer uses you would be amazed. The difference is people with low resources can watch a divx on my vlc where as gxine it just pauses and goes, and pauses etc.
Some reports were around 50% less resources, none were higher. Plus the VLC package was twice as large as Gxine and 1/2 the resources. VLC I compiled as i386.
Since then I never looked back Smile
ttuuxxx

PS i486 is Slackware Smile

Hi ttuuxxx, I have to get out for a couple of hours...

Don´t worry, I´ll take care of that hiawatha package, will use your nice stuff Smile . I did an incompleted one to teach users about the security things concerned to Hiawatha Wink (you know I love security stuff), when some problem appears that little information could help. Anyway for 214X final a complete package with the security files will be included, to make things easier for users.

About i386, Seems like the video compilation difference could be an exception for the rule. In my social circle the oldest machine I have seen working is my old Pentium (a i586 system), no i486 nor i386 (although I´m sure I saw an old board somehwere in my room), an I don´t see any CPU instructions difference... I feel like a deja vu, I´m sure we discussed these in a different thread long time ago. BUT, you are right 214X has it´s own standard and I´ll use that norm.

Update: I forgot to say, I´ll keep an eye in 214X tonight so if you need any help just ask.

Greetings,
clarf

Printing

I'd like to have gsview installed, but have found that gsview_afplgs-4.7-8.54.pet from the repo breaks printing (took some time to find the culprit).
So, does anyone know of a gsview-pet that doesn't conflict with CUPS/GtkLp, I think it's really the ghostscript packages that conflict, so perhaps a gsview-only pet?

Grateful for any suggestions Smile/

could you try the one I made up, I did remember that you wanted it as a pet Smile

Hi ttuuxxx,

Here is the hiawatha package, I decided to keep your v7 binaries, not errors found in my tests or reported issues in Hiawatha forum for this version.

I mixed and fixed some little errors with our packages...

Now is a plug´N play application.

Greetings,

Great clarf, Glad you finished the hiawatha package in time Smile
I've been working on dillo, its coming along nicely,
I changed the theme with one from the website, but of course the names weren't correct in the code and so I had to figure that out, bookmarks work, so I added a few, like I do with Firefox. Just have a few more tweaks left Smile and then I can move on.

Thank you ttuuxxx,

Nope never going to change this version of Gpicview, This is the custom one Hairywill added slideshow to it, non of the official ones have it, well the last time I checked they didn't and the bin file is really, really small.

I downloaded RC3 recently and tried it out. It looks good and has a good range of apps but sadly it still locks up when Firefox is running, necessitating two reboots since Gkdial sticks on the first one.

It's a shame because I very much like what you're trying to do with this project.
I might try installing and running Opera to see whether the same happens there.

I compiled a frontend to wvdial called gnome ppp, want to give it a shot, I don't have dialup so I can't test it.
ttuuxxx

It comes with all the locales also.

Oh please install this wv pet first, the one with 2.14X looks too be too old or cutdown, either or, I don't think the default one in 2.14X will work,

Thanks ttuuxxx. I'm in 4.31 at the moment but all the same I'm happy to download it and give it a go.

Best,

CP.

P.S. I must stress that I don't get lockups any more since I "degunked" my machine and got most of the dust and fluff out of it, especially from the CPU fan. Smile

I downloaded the .pet as soon as I saw it but, didn't really have time to test it this weekend. Will test tonight.
Thanks.

Hi Guys if anyone wants to hack Pburn feel free, lol
Ok I'll explain, I've mentioned in the past on the Pburn thread that it should have simple 2 features,
1- A known issue with Pburn is that if the cdrw/dvdrw drive that you select at the first splashscreen is mounted, Pburn will not umount it, so it sits and acts like its broken, It won't erase/burn nothing and doesn't tell you anything is wrong. Really when you select which device it should auto-unmount the drive you select right then and there once you select ok.
2- When its finished and the final splash say "success and the amount of time" I think it would be nice if it played the 2 barks sound to let you known its finished.

Just figured I would shoot that one out while I'm building the final Smile Its the little things that count, lol, If not I might have a loot at it myself If I get the time.

I think the Puppy 2.1x version that Ttuuxxx is building here includes gconf. You could try installing his gconf package if you can find it, or my package here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=351445
It is supposed to be a gnome application, but I didn't think Ttuuxxx was including Gnome... if you run ldd on it, does it say there are any other libraries missing? It would be handy to know what it does depend on.

the Gconf library I packaged up for 2.14X, I removed most of the gnome deps, The only one I left was liborbit, and liborbit I think I removed some gnome deps from that also so it didn't need anything to run, But Gconf and orbit both do function perfectly and it allows such applications like File-roller and Gcalctool to function in 2.14X, without the Gconf, LibOrbit both applications would be dead in the water.
