Scottman: this bugfix release is especially for puppy arcade (and others), now it works good, try it
Great stuff... I hope to test it today! In a minute, in fact..
Seriously, this is VERY MUCH appreciated, and something that is unfortunately way beyond me!

I'll let you know how it goes, but it all looks good, and that's probably what I will report :)

GREAT work

#22 Post by sc0ttman »

Hi Trio,

Works perfectly... Excellent tool..
Very easy to use and does exactly what's required of it.
Thanks for this, it's a gem.

One last question, more out of curiosity than anything...
Is it possible to load 2 wbars at the same time (using different config files) by loading 2 profiles?

I couldn't seem to do it, but I think it was me being thick..

Thanks again.

Scottman,

You are welcome, pls enjoy.

Multiple instances of wbar profiles at the same time? Yup, I manually did that. But, psssst! It's going to be one of the new feature of Wbarcc (re profiles)
But, it's not urgent, I need to have the time and the mood to do it. I am celebrating Chinese New Year right now.

Cheers

I tried this in XFCE, it killed my xinitrc file putting "/usr/local/wbarcc/wbarexec" at the end of every line,

application autostart is no good either if pwidget in running found the only way to get it to work was to add " exec /usr/local/wbarcc/wbarexecapply "

to the end of the fixwidgets script in " /usr/sbin/ " that way pwidgets has control of it , works fine that way, it even updates with wallpaper selection quick cleanly.

One other change is the menu categories need to be change to Categories=Settings, XFCE doesn't recognize X-Desktop.

Hope thats of some help to those that want to use it in XFCE

itzme:
Well, not every xfce users, use pwidgets (except NOP 431). And the difference between wbarexec file and wbarexecapply file is the sleep. There's no sleep in wbarexecapply file. But, what you told can be useful to other xfce users. Note: If I remembered correctly, all unrecognized menu items can be found under others in NOP

Pri:
When you first start to use WBARCC, you'll get a default settings (ones that are in form of numbers) for bar (except icons, font, bar image path). You have to set it the first time to save your settings. And you also can create numerous profiles of your preferred settings. Transparency can be set under the BAR & FONT tab.

trio:

I realize that not every xfce user, uses pwidgets, but it does seem to function better using pwidget in xfce.

desktop widgets don't have to be added if the desktop needs to be clear of them.

I did try it with wbarexec in the fixwidgets script at first,
but found that wbarexecapply will refresh much faster on wallpaper changes,as you say, no sleep.

With pwidget in xfce associated to the wallpaper changer it makes for a clean transition,
there being no artifacts from the previous wallpaper

Yes, the menu does go into "other", but for the sake of conformity one only need change the categories to which ever suits.

So I'd like to make a few changes to how wbar is loaded in the next version..".

Yes, to have profiles so that on screen resolution changes they are automatically applied,
so it didn't run off the screen, as large bars have a tendency to do, that would be good.

I do like Wbar Configuration Centre, works great.

Cheers

edit:

oops, I neglected to say that " killall wbar " should be added to the top of the fixwidgets script.

I'm not sure any more features are required..
I just plan to create 2 profiles, called '800x600' and '1024x768', or 'low-res' and 'high-res'...

The difference being the size and spacing of the icons...
The former will be small enough for lower resolutions, the latter, with bigger icons for higher resolutions..
Then users can easily choose a profile that should work for them..

Until they tinker too much and break it again! :)

Possibly wbarcc could add up the width of the bar and check if the resolution is too low, then warn the user to make smaller icons or something like that... But I'm very happy with how it is now..

No, don't use "-" (dash) in profile names, it will not be recognized..., use underscore instead "_"

My fault, should make a workaround for this

Tested... Works well, as expected.. No errors as far as I can tell...

Although...

It confused me at first that after clicking 'apply', I had to go to profiles, then save in order to run both profiles with the latest changes..

By this i mean that after making changes to one profile, I'd like to see the changes saved in the profile, after I click 'apply'...

But thats a tiny little issue for me... because the save profile button is right next to the multiple profiles buttons...

So.. Once again, it's all good! :D

Version 06 final is uploaded in mainpage

scottman:
Yes, running multiple profiles means that the profiles (with configs off course) MUST already saved before.

itzme:
Sorry, I don't think I will add falfa parameter

So, that's it for Wbarcc for now...i may look at it again if there's bugs and or a new feature (I am thinking of dragging an icon to its preferred place, rather than clicking up or down button)....

Cheers

This may or may not be an issue, but when .wbar contains an icon entry with no name, such as

Code: Select all

i:/usr/share/pixmaps/atari.jpg
c:atari-gtk
t:
the icon gets removed when using wbarcc... This is a little problem as some icons contain a name/title (like my atari.jpg) and don't need text, or are unreadable when text overlayed... But it's a tiny issue and doesn't bother me, personally...

Yes, you can't have an icon without text with wbarcc, I'll tell you why, all recognizing and sorting icons begin with the "t:yourtext" as the first filter....the logic is if you don't have a text to display then the icon will have no name thus no icon will be displayed in the list, as the list consists of text (names) not actual icons

Fair enough, makes sense... :)
