First boot from floppy, then start from CD not recognized by

#1 Post by rindi »

I don't know if this is at all possible.

The following scenario:

Laptop with external USB and PCCard CD drives, neither are recognized by the BIOS so I can't boot from them.
I can boot from a USB Floppy drive, though.

I'd like to run a liveCD like that of puppy. Is it possible to first start the booting process from a floppy drive that loads a minimal kernel so that PCCard and USB CD Drives are recognized, and then a bootloader loads up and from that I can select the CD from which the boot process can continue from?

I've tried a utility called smart bootmanager which almost does what I want, but it can onloy boot from devices known to the BIOS, so it doesn't help here:

http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/

Thanks for any ideas or links that may help solve this problem!
