Re: mrxvt and Firefox 3.5.7 not working correctly

Could be because you have an older kit.
A quick fix for Mrxvt is basically go to usr/bin/rxvt and rename it to mrxvt and just replace it :) I left the rxvt bin just in case someone had issues ;)
ttuuxxx
Another issue I have with Firefox is that using control with the mousewheel to enlarge text is backwards. To enlarge text the wheel is rolled away from the user instead of toward the user. Every other Puppy I've used is opposite this. And in several forums on message boards nothing happens when I select the buttons -- none of the buttons - B, i, u, Quote, Code, List, or URL work.

I have just replaced mrxvt with rxvt. I have made the adjustment to rxvt that I needed to get frame size, the font size, and background and foreground colors that I prefer. Its not mrxvt with Midnight Commander but at least it's readable.

I validated the site and it does have a few java related mistakes.

could be that, also it did work fine for myself, but I didn't test the broken java links.

ttuuxxx -- no updates or patches. The dillorc was badly messed up by both me & dillocfg. I also didn't understand that little box in the lower right hand corner of the frame which causes the panel and the menu to be shown. That together with the Options menu shown by right clicking View simplify getting dillo to work. Like most of Linux there are no really clear instructions.

livepackages.txt updated

#2950 Post by clarf »

linuxsansdisquedur wrote:keeping on testing RC3....
petget just offers official serie 2 pet
Hi,

I looked this on-line stuff, well if we could have access to ibiblio we could add our official depot for 214X.

Looking the official 2 series directory in ibiblio, I found there are many new packages that are not listed in PPM, I updated the livepackages.txt adding some of them. Note that I didn´t added the *-pup2.pet packages cause they were added last year for Puppy 2.18 (woof based) and don´t know if they are 100% compatibles...

Just copy the livepackages.txt file to /root/.packages and test the on-line installation of new packages added...

Greetings,
clarf

HELP!!!

#2952 Post by MinHundHettePerro »

Hello :)!

I normally have sound in 214X.
Yesterday, my non-computerised wife came to me with an, for her, unusual wish, she wanted to watch some youtube-videos of some fabulous french artist that she had watched on youtube at work.
NO SOUND!!! :( :( :(

I found that there is no sound for any .swf-files :(.

It's not unique for 214X, I also tried in dpup with the same silent results. My wife turned to my kids to help her on their XP-machine

Any help to solve this issue, would be greatly appreciated. (Have spent the whole day downloading torrents of .avi-files through piratebay , would have been faster and easier to view the videos directly from youtube )

Cheers :)/

IMVHO soft install is a brake to increase the number of puppy users, front of very other "pro" distro we don't have big depot to offer... even if on the forum we can find every thing we want ! even if that why i LOVE puppy as THE really protean amateurs distro ! 8)
some time it's boring me and i dream of very documented depots for each puppy and puplet i test  ...and an up to date puppy software installer to find it ... :P

Works fine for me, Never had a sound issue from Youtube, did you read the /tmp/xerrs.log or have you tried running firefox from a terminal and see if any error reports happen?

Hi Clarf I had a look at it, and well it would add a lot of images and size, actually it would add about 137 lines of code and the following images. I might play with the colours and see what I can do.

MinHundHettePerro,

Working at less-than-dialup speeds, I used Puppy 4.31 to download a couple of YouTube videos and saved them (MP4's) on my hard drive.

They would play fine with Puppy 4.31, but 214XRC3 gives about 15 seconds of audio and frozen video before stopping with a segmentation fault displayed via GUI. Running again from Terminal gives:

Code: Select all

sh-3.00# CDROMREADTOCHDR: Input/output error
sh: CDROMREADTOCHDR::command not found
sh-3.00# WARN: could not retrieve file info for 'image.nrg': No such file or directory
>WARN: can't open nrg image image file image.nrg for reading
>Compiler did not align stack variables. Libavcodec has been miscompiled
>and may be very slow or crash. This is not a bug in libavcodec,
>but in the compiler. You may try recompiling using gcc >= 4.2.
>Do not report crashes to FFmpeg developers.
>gxine has suffered a fatal internal error.
>To get a backtrace, run gxine in a debugger such as gdb.
>Then, when an error occurs:
> (gdb) thread apply all bt
>gxine: error: Fatal error: Segmentation fault
>sh-3.00#
-Roy

EDIT: I should also note that some .swf games I have laying around opened up on 214XRC3's Firefox and played (with sound) just fine -- well, at least as well as my limited gaming ability allowed. I *think* the challenge with You Tube lies with the MP-4 format, which has been reported elsewhere as playing good video, but without proper sound.

if anyone wants to extract or build 7zip .7z archives just install this package and then use fileroller, don't use xarchiver it will segfault. funny how these 2 archivers combined make a once excellent lite archive utility.

my http://www.splitgames.fr/echange-jeux-v ... ame/1.html issue seems a firefox 3.5 with image downloading preferences issue; it run ok with firefox 2. :)
flash 10 issue that crash not only firefox (3.5 and 2 too) but p2x itself seems to be related to 100% cpu usage... any idea?
