how do i copy and paste to and from terminal?

how do i copy and paste to and from terminal?


all i know is i can paste in it with clicking both mouse buttons same time.
how do i highlight stuff in the terminal to select and then copy it.

Highlight + middleclick (click on wheel button) is global feature should work for any app. How do you mean, how do you higlight? Well, you just highlight it. Click where you want to start highlighting text, hold mouse button then drag and release when desired text is selected. Then while it's selected just middleclick to paste.

EDIT: For pasting to terminal shift+insert also works usually.

dejan555, those methods work for me anywhere outside rxvt. In rxvt it's only possible to copy/paste within the same window, which is not very useful (I state that based on my own experience running Puppy 4.31).

However, in Sakura those methods work along with right-click on highlighted text.

And, I assume, this thread's author is using rxvt, since it's the default terminal emulator

Jana, I use the method as Dejans describes for highlighting in the rxvt terminal. Then I go to the target windows outside the rxvt terminal and with the middle click I paste there.
There is no need to make puppy 'heavier' with another terminal program.

Béèm, that doesn't work for me in rxvt. I get this when I highlight text in rxvt and middle-click in SeaMonkey (in this particular case):

And that's supposed to be few lines of "top" output.

On the other hand, this middle click thing works everywhere else and I really find it very handy.

Maybe this rxvt thing has something to do with system setup? I have full Puppy 4.31 installation on HDD and don't really mind having more programs.

Should work in full install the same way.

Béèm, something is indeed wrong with my system: I just tested that by booting from Puppy 4.31 CD. Worked perfectly.

Strange, I was pretty sure rxvt is messed up because same problem occured on all puppy installations I had - and I had a few, on two different HDDs, each time adding more packages to install in order to set everything right. I guess some package must have interfered with rxvt.

Anyway, thanks from prooving me I'm wrong, otherwise I would start thinking that everyone is lying
