Desktop Shutdown Shortcut <SOLVED> Subject description: One Click Shutdown |
|
Having successfully installed frugal puppy on my old laptop I am now "updating" an old desktop for my elderly parents. I need to make the system as simple as possible.
I have removed most icons from the desktop leaving only the browser and media player. In addition I have downloaded pupRadio and configured it to their favorite stations. I have had to make the icons larger as the hands are not steady.
If possible I would like to add a desktop icon that would allow them to shoutdown (safely) with a single click.
I am assuming I would have to modify the poweroff file in some way however some of the suggestions such as:
shutdown -h now
don't seem to work
any help appreciated

Where the heck did you find the file? The answer to your question might be helpful to other people with the same question, if you'd say what it was.

Open pfind>type wmpoweroff;
There's only 2 files.
I never would have thought of it.

/usr/bin/wmpoweroff
or you may have to use
/usr/bin/shutdownjwm
instead.

Not on my Puppy computer at the moment however as suggested I used pfind to locate the file.
Using puppy 4.3.1 as a frugal dual boot with WIN XP

I wasn't asking for myself, I was asking as a forum administrator.
It's very rude to ask for help in a forum and then not report back with what worked. The people who helped you will appreciate the feedback, and leaving the solution that you found might help other people to solve a similar problem. It's how I think a forum should work, anyway.

I think that is pretty clear
To me that says that the instructions given were followed and the problem was solved.
As to others who may not know how to search is another matter - my opinion for its worth.

You can use the same instructions for wmreboot (/usr/bin/wmreboot) if you want to put a restart icon on the desktop too.

Also if you install acpid-1.0.10-1.pet
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=38173
Then you can suspend you laptop / newer pc's also with a desktop icon
(/etc/acpi/actions/suspend.sh)

How to find binaries that are in executable path:
EDIT:
Better yet:
Open folder in rox where binary is located:
| Code: | | rox `dirname $(which wmpoweroff)` |
Open script that's in executable path in geany:
| Code: | | geany `which defaultpaint` |
