I think the question has been asked before and I think the answer was: not possible.
Try to find something via the puppysearch link in my sig.

It is definitely possible with a variety of software. I don't know if you can do it with Rox, which normally controls the background in Puppy, but you can if you set the backgrounds with JWM (Puppy's window manager):

If you turn off Rox pinboard background altogether you can do it with jwm
(Rox is started automatically in .xinitrc)

I have hacked most of the Rox functionality into jwm except for some script modifications to update the drive icons

thanks guys, I had a feeling ROX was being an obstacle
@technosaurus: do your hacking efforts indicate that ROX might be dropped for 4.4?? (he said, without even having a look at the 4.4 specs ) if so, would that mean I can run xPlanet without any SOAP??
