Echinus Windowmanager Package

#1 Post by aragon »

Home: http://www.rootshell.be/~polachok/code/
Version: 0.3.9
echinus is a window manager for X in spirit of dwm.
differences:
* echinus is configured via one config file in Xresources format
* echinus supports the smallest possible subset of EWMH to be useable with panels/pagers
* ifloating layout mimics traditional wm behaviour
* Xft (TTF) support
* multihead support with Xrandr
* no statusbar, no scripting, no nothing
i've recently discovered this one because of a post by musher0 (thanks for that). as i do like tiling-wms (i use awesome-2 often) i decided to give it a trial. Very nice and simple one.

I've included the following tools in this package:
- ourico: simple panel
- dmenu advanced: dynamic menu system
- wmjump window switcher (over all desktops)
- gmrun run-dialog that could start apps in terminal by Ctrl + Return

To start echinus logout and type

Code: Select all

xwin startechinus
As i've changed much values in echinusrc, it is strongly recomended to look at this first:

Code: Select all

/root/.echinus/echinusrc
NOTE: One of the changes i made was to only support tiled and maximized layout.

All app compiled and tested in 4.31.

EDIT 20091210: The new package contains echinus 0.3.9 and an updated dmenu-package. i also fixed a missing file in the startup-folder. please note that i've changed also the look slightly (now black and white). so if you want the old look or you have changed some of the scripts/settings you might want to backup yours first.

Hello, aragon, and Happy New Year!

I just learned of your work on Echinus 3.9 through browsing the "dokupuppy" site. I tried compiling it in dpup 482 beta4, but the compiler sort of jammed.

Nice implementation of Echinus v. 3.9 for the newer Puppies that you have here. I still have to explore the other programs that you have put in this package, but echinus itself looks good.

I personally like to have a mix of tiling and floating windows, and more colours, so I will use my old echinus and ourico config files. That's the beauty of Echinus: choice and flexibility!

The best to you (and thanks for the thanks!).

BFN.

christian,

i stumbled upon echinus because of a post of you :wink:

test the other apps they are nice exytensions (my opinion).

i'm actually working on a simple menu-system (based on the desktop-files) that could be used with wm's like echinus. it is based on ratmenu.
