Any news/plans on a 4.4 Alpha?

I have to agree there. When will we see a 4.4 Alpha?

Brad (technosaurus) has been poorly
but is now back on course - see above
I sent him some healing energy via my friends the astral dolphins
Hopefully that does not make him unwell . . .
Wish him well, send prayers, kind thoughts etc

I am putting together the bugfixes
http://code.google.com/p/puppy-development/issues/list
there are quite a few outstanding that could use fixing
I got too aggressive with optimizations for abiword and will need to recompile it so that it will open an external browser (required for several plugins)
I think there was a request to compile gtk against xinput ... not sure if Barry's version of 2.18.3 is or not so I may compile 2.18.4
This build may be slightly larger to test some alternative programs ... pwireless2, ten extra calculators (j/k), some different games see below (I am growing weary of testers saying "it doesn't even have solitaire?" - not sure if ttuuxxx's flash solitaire pet is gpl so I built Ace of Penguins with some Debian patches)
I am working 12 hour days these days transitioning to a new job and catching up from being out sick for 2 weeks so it will be this weekend .

I thought I would bring this to your attention
Code: | if [ "$CURRENTWM" != "jwm" -a "$CURRENTWM" != "icewm" ];then
[ -f /usr/bin/fbpanel ] && fbpanel &
[ -f /usr/bin/lxpanel ] && lxpanel &
fi |
That is from "~/,xinitrc". Sometimes (usually) Icewm is started with "icewm-session". If fbpanel and lxpanel are present and the output of "cat /etc/windowmanager" was "icewm-session", wouldn't there be some sort of catastrophic consequence? I haven't tried it, so don't know, just suspect.
Cheers
EDIT: musher0 has what seems a nice fix in the Dpup thread http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=368286#368286

One more pet to test, couldn't pass this one up
AVFS allows you to browse various compression formats as if they are a folder
set up to browse *.tar.gz *.tar.bz2 *.rar *.zip and capable of many more (and much faster than Xarchive)
Quote: | At the moment it supports floppies, tar and gzip files, zip, bzip2, ar and rar files, ftp sessions, http, webdav, rsh/rcp, ssh/scp. Quite a few other handlers are implemented with the Midnight Commander's external FS. |
instructions to run
Run AVFS:
Code: | # avfsd ~/.avfs-mount. |
To configure ROX-Filer to open directories using AVFS, set the run action (Set Run Action...) for zip files (and other archive types) to:

Hi I updated your mimes on roxfiler most were already done just about 10 or so that weren't
But you forgot one things. You need to edit the sources to remove the annoying "Running as user"root""
I usually delete that section from the sources. Basically just reuse the mime after the next build if you like.

P.S: I don´t know about rxvt state, but a multitab rxvt will be good.

rxvt not support UTF-8, and (I'm not be sure) multi-tab, xterm for my is better choice. |
For my Objective-Caml developpements on Puppy i use VTE, no multitab either, but still better than rxvt. Also, libvte supports UTF-8 and because libvte implements a GTK widget, any Gtk application can embed a vte widget. Sakura is a multitabbed libvte-based terminal emulator.

My recommendations for puppy 4.4:
* Sakura Terminal
* GNU Nano
Other ideas:
* aisleriot solataire or something similar
* openbox/tint2 (not a fan of jwm)

Your effort is impressive. I look forward to using it.
Here are two comments:
1. When moving about menu items the little text window that opens very often covers other menu lines requiring deft maneuvering to defeat. I think you should drop those little text windows. We all know what the programs do anyway.
2. Opera is a great choice. Opera 10 would be way better than 9..
These are not negatives. I only wish I had the ability to do what you are doing.

I've made sakura pets a few times
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=29788
but Sakura is not 100% compatible with puppy specific applications, like petget and a few others, certain puppy related functions don't work with sakura so rxvt would have to stay default, I did try talking with developer in the past but he's a bit lazy on updating it.
