That's how it was all morning, though no sooner had I posted here
than it changed to about every 10 mins now. Is it governed by
current traffic?
Only 3 more hours to go .......
But I'm sure it will be well worth this wait!

Shep, yes..the bandwidth limiting is governed by the number of users logged in at the time...it endevours to give everyone a fair slice...it's obviously not that good at it....especially when low speed dialup logins are competing with high speed logins.

R40 num lock
The num lock problem on my R40 is still alive.
The circumvention is known to me.

Everything seems fine here so far, I haven't rebooted yet though, running clean frugal install.
Numlock was NOT on by default here.
Abiword seems good, drec works, also tested a bit gimp 2.6.6 package so far works smooth, but I'm gonna test it more.
Control Panel and first wizard also better.
SSH & remote clients are also nice additions.
Mplayer still starts below taskbar though.
Ayttm crashes when trying to connect to msn account but I expected that, that's ayttm's problem.
Um, not sure how smart it is but should we ditch ayttm?
It crashes on amsn and I doubt it works with current yahoo messenger either. Maybe just put xchat in instead? Or even pidgin but I know that's a lot of fat on already very greasy dpup

I just installed Dpup482-beta5 and ran the 1st install script and selected wbar, numlock on, locale, and then set up my internet connection.
When I rebooted, the pupsave was created.
But the wbar setting was not retained and I had to run the 1st install script again.
I have yet to see if that setting is retained this time.
Also, I tried installing the Floppy Formatter Pet that had the script that was written by the creator of ufiformat.
It failed on writing a dos file system to the disk.
So I used a fall back to a never released script that I had created that seems to work with Dpup.
For anyone that wants to try it, it is attached.

Yeah, this one is a pain, and as Béèm said, it appears when you do an fsck. I put pfix=fsck in my kernel line in grub's menu.lst, in my usual frugal installs so fsck checks file integrity every startup, and is constantly reporting unclean shutdowns. I did not do this with Dpup test installs , however, so forgot to mention it here.gposil wrote:ralphv said:Has this problem been reported before...I certainly haven't had any problems unmounting at shutdown....has anyone else had this problem...Want to see if a frugal will cleanly unmount the partition at shutdown. Beta4 didn't.
Also as Béèm says, it's been around for most puppies since, I believe, 4.x.
One workaround a user reported was to use the kernel switch PMEDIA=ataflash even on a hard drive instead of the more usual PMEDIA=satahd or idehd. This one does cleanly close. However, it has the disadvantage that you can lose work between the periodic automatic saves if power drops out.
It would be great to actually solve this problem, if that's possible. It creates an insecure feeling about shut-downs for me. Even if pfix=fsck corrects things.
EDIT that's ataflash, not usbflash

hello from beta5
firstrun frugal experience:
* numlock is deactivated
* setting firstrun use wbar
* apply settings -> immediate(!) x server restart; that was a little unexpected and killed my running firefox
* ok, icons are gone from desktop, but wbar doesnt show up
* doing a reboot, writing to savefile
* icons are back again, no wbar
next i'll check apt support

Wahoo!Beta5 will start in about 10 minutes...should only take 5-10 minutes to upload...

Booted up beta5, opened no programs, shutdown, got an not cleanly unmounted when I checked the partition that has the pup save.Béèm wrote:You only see this issue when you do a fsck, not at shutdown time.
I got this in several puppies already.
Can't remember them all, but the latest case was with upup476.
Haven't checked for a dpup yet.
My hard drive is a bit different, shows up as sda instead of hda even in older linuxes that usually see hard drives as hda.
If I go to archlinux instead of running e2fsck, archlinux says the same thing, checks the hard drive, pauses for 15 seconds, and reboots
