Macpup Foxy 3.0

#1 Post by runtt21 »

Prit And I are proud to announce the release of our newest e17 Macpup, Macpup Foxy 3.0 . The .iso is 175 mb .

Macpup Foxy 3.0 is based on puppylinux 4.31.1 (k2.6.30.5) a bug fix version by Ttuuxxx.
It also includes all the updates from the 4.3.1 servicepack.Fox 3 has all the apps from 4.3 plus Firefox (updated to 3.5.4) and Gimp 2.6.3 .Fox 3 also Has Dbus 1.2.16 & Sakura 1.2.3 compiled and installed from source. The Enlightenment e17 window manager version .062 was also compiled and installed from source. You can also use jwm. Use the exit menu to change window managers , In e17 that is the exit icon on the desktop. Please note that not all the options in the e17 system shutdown menu work with puppy linux. That is why the exit menu was added.

The battery module in this build of E17 had a problem of Maxing out the cpu.So I removed it in Fox 3.I have added a script to check battery status .
Just click on the battery icon if you are using a laptop.

When using a pup-save file It is recommended that you copy the zp430305.sfs to the partition or drive that you have the pup-save file to make sure all of your drivers are loaded.

One thing I forgot to do is to turn the edge bindings off. If you hang a app off the edge or slam the pointer into the edge it will change desktops. Alot of times when you dont want it to. To fix this go to menu-settings-settings panel. In the app that opens on the top go to input then select edge bindings. In the next window select delete all then apply and close. You can also change the binding to do other stuff....

Thanks Runtt, Prit....i know it'll be another class act in the tradition of Macpup :-)

Downloading it now but the file-size is shown as 175.3mb - you just rounded it up to 180mb, didya?

Thanks for the warning about the keybindings....desktops prancing back and forth at light speed over my screen can be good entertainment value though, when someone who's Puppy-clueless is looking over my shoulder

Hope to have a replacement laptop within a week or so but will try him out on the mac desktop in the meantime anyway...looking forward to it!

Hello WhoDo, nice to see you....your avatar's looking well

Well Runtt, i'm posting from Foxy 3 and can remember now why i'm not so fussed to be using Puppy on the Mac - this one's screen res is 1400x900x24 but i can only have either 1400x900x16 or 1024x768x24, which just doesn't look so good. And...the shutdown/reboot process is a nightmare (with ANY breed of Puppy i've tried on it), because the text size is HUMONGOUS, spilling off both left and right sides of the screen, so i can only see what's in the middle. I then just tab from memory the number of times for what i want Puppy to do, curse some, then reboot back into OSX! Can't wait to get that laptop!!

Not complaining about Macpup you understand, just frustrated that this system doesn't do it justice....anyway, i managed to shrink my shelves down within the E17 settings, so they're looking how i want them (nice little size 28 icons) :)

Haven't had time to play with too much yet but no probs with Gimp...Simplemail in FF works with gmail, too and i love the customised search engines, oh yeahhhh :D

Thanks,
russoodle
(aka 'dudette' )

cgt_1991 One of the things with this build of e17 is that the snapshot is from last july so the stuff in the svn has advanced well beyond it. the extra modules I built for opera061 wont run in Fox 3 cause of the differences in evas and ecore . The only ones that I could compile for fox 3 are included , Flame,Rain & snow. The rest all gave compile errors. They are over due for the next snapshot. When it comes out I will update e17 and rebuild the extra modules. But I have no idea when that will happen.

Mandatory donation??

What's up with that?

Personally I prefer to try before I buy.

Tried Macpup 3.0 a while ago. On my Compaq F570 US laptop, I got blank screen after i chose the screen resolution (1280x800). Went well on my desktop PC.

The menu text are hard to read with the default theme which is beautiful by the way. If only there was a way to make the text white instead of black (on dark brown bckground).

Never mind, I got it.

And it's BEAUTIFUL!

But I can't use it. The fonts are too small even at 800x600 and black on dark brown is nearly invisible.
