Downloaded and did a full install on my P3 test box.Working great as expected. :)

I was a bit concerned while running live before the install though. Because 2.14 X is known for not using a lot of memory, I was surprised by Htop showing 100 mb of swap being used while running live. Now that it is installed, it's back down to about 40-80 mb used with 0 swap.... much better.

Hi James you also had Firefox running at the time, That would explain most of it :)

Running only Htop, no Firefox, ram usage is down in the 40's. Running live it was using swap at idle.............not a problem, just an observation.I don't run the live cd much so I was surprised at the difference.

All I know is that 2.14 X is fast, solid and just works........ :)

Edit: sorry, a stand-alone post. It's a follow-on to my comment above that I could not print to my printer which is connected to a windows computer.

Nowhere for cups error_log to go!! I created /var/cups/log/error_log so that I could see what was happening. Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of town for a couple of days, and these network problems are v difficult to track down.

Cups error log reports that /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb is missing.

Can't do any more now.

@ttuuxxx- I should have known. The I've lost count of the number of Puppies I've put that symlink into! Barry puts it in the "official" releases nowadays, so I'd forgotten about it. Anyway, that's the fix. Great new Puppy!

ttuuxxx working in the RC, Great news. :D

I think it deserves its own forum thread, this thread is large enough (in fact too large for a good search) and all the bugs reported here are closed now.

Sadly I only can download and test this RC on weekend, too much work now.

Greetings,
clarf

Hi Clarf

I did think about that and then I figured after 161 pages, we only have about another 10 or so pages to go and then we can topple pwidgets reign over the most threads and become the largest murga forum thread in history, lol I'm so competitive :) Probably the final should be on a thread by its own :)

OK ttuuxxx, we are going to break that record. :)

I also was thinking in some other fine features for 214X, I really like the Control Panel from Dpup, what about our own Control Panel for 214X?

What do you think boys/girls?

I originally found that same control panel during the 4.2 build but Whodo select a different one. Gposil has tweaked it some, but I could find it again on the web and compile it, it has a lot of nice features, just needs to be setup.
If you or anyone else wants to set it up, I'll compile/package it.

I know something you DIDN'T add to 214x ttuuxxx

CatDude's grub gui....

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=185314

Any chance for rc1? ....or am I the only one who liked it?

Please discuss, if only to boost the page numbers

Aitch :)

Like clarf I won't be able to give it a good test for a day or so but (after /opt/samba/bin/smbspool has been sorted) it looks spot on.

I have been saying for ages that if FF is launched from the menu it redraws the desktop when it exits. That problem seems to have gone away with 214x-RC1. Good news.

I like the idea of a smart looking Control panel but would only like a grub-gui if I can turn it off. Hopefully that's possible.

And finally, yes it would be really appreciated if you could start a new thread for 214X final.

Oh and by the way...no MD5. grrrr

Cheers :-)
Dave

EDIT
Oh no. I spoke too soon. The "FF bug" is back and now it seems to take even longer to redraw the screen. As I've seen other apps do it (picasa3 beta-sfs??) I guess I shouldn't call it a FF bug. I can surely live with this by using the desktop icon to launch but it worries me that something is not quite right.

Thanks ttuuxxx, I liked its easy use and single file configuration.

I´m configuring it with the same tab and apps scheme from Dpup. Using Crystal Project Icons and searching for even more crystal icons (48x48 size).

I´ll try to release a pet with the new icons soon. I only hope not to use more than 100 KB for it.

Hi clarf, maybe just use a simple icon, and rename it for each menu item, Then when I get your package, I'll apply icons for it, The reason why is that, I have hundreds and hundreds of icons and usually I compress them better and make them much smaller than the default size :) kind of like what I did with the mimes icons :) Barry's was larger, and about 12 or so less. My were smaller in size overall and better looking :)
