Conky - System Monitor (tested in 4.3.1)

#1 Post by aragon »

Home: http://conky.sourceforge.net/
Version: 1.7.2
Conky is a free, light-weight system monitor for X, that displays any information on your desktop. Conky is licensed under the GPL and runs on Linux and BSD.
Compiled and tested in 4.31. Starter is in System.

Versions:
conky-1.7.2.pet Normally you want this one. no additional deps in 4.3.
conky-imlib2-1.7.2.pet If you want to use image-files with conky (e.g. as background) you'll need this one. imlib2 (attached) as additional dependency.

You'll find a samplerc in /root (output see pic).

Hi aragon,

I wonder did you compile with imlib2 support? Much fun can be had with images in Conky these days. There isn't a hell of a lot on the web to do with image support but if you dig hard enough you can find.

Cheers and thanks

That's a nice read-out you've made. I have a basic conky.rc compared to yours. Our first halves match; I like the second half of your info very much.

micko,

no, this one is compiled without imlib2 as imlib2 is a 'big-one' but i've planned to do a second package with imlib2 (i'm using an environment where imlib is allready installed...). i will upload this later/tomorrow.

regarding infos conky<=>imlib2
http://conky.wikia.com/wiki/Conky_and_I ... 8Imlib2%29
but, you're right, not much info.

it seems, most users - like the puppy-bling-boys ;-) - use fonts to display simple icons.

personally, i don't need the icons/pics in conky, but i want to play a little with mpd and moc output in conky and why not display the cover of the actual playing song...

@jakfish
nice you like it. compared to the conky-examples you find in the net, i think my one is also very basic. but i do like the simplicity of that and if i do not play around, that's nearly all i need (maybe additional network up/downspeed).

one thing i've not pointed out: the pupsave-output uses a modded puppy-script (calcfreespace.sh) include in the package (as conky_calcfreespace.sh). for me (as shown in the pic) it outputs correct (boot from usb with pupsave on usb), but i've not tested it with other setups.
