Ah ok.....well the main use would be for epsxe which we can use on windows but was wondering about the usefulness of such a pad on linux.
I will suck it and see.(and report back here)..thanks for your time

I sucked it...well them really (2 pads on one usb) and all that was needed was

modprobe usbhid
modbrobe joydev

analog was mentioned but having done the above the pads were detected and active. I was able to setup in epsxe external pad config and also epsxe with wine but either were not running for some other reason..grrrr.

Regardless I tried the pad(s) with the excellent ysflight simulator and had the joy(stick) of flying with the analog controls.

So the short answer is no problem on linux using usb gamepads assuming the game supports joystick inputs

Oh good

Well not sure what was up earlier but now works perfectly with linux epsxe...and no configuration needed...perhaps that's what upset it.
