epsxe-1.6.0
Hey fools, I recently posted a semi-guide to setting up epsxe1.6.0 found here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=41090
You could follow this guide to install it.. or install my .pet! It has all the minimum plugins and cfg files to run it. It even has all the BIOS!
ePSXe 1.6.0
-----------------------------
A PSX emulator for Linux. Err.. yea the end. (There was no "about" section on the main website )
-----------------------------
You definitely need gtk1.2 support so head on to the Puppy Package Manager and go to the Puppy3 section. It should be there. You may also need SDL (I'm not too sure about this) and OpenGL is optional. You can run solely off software rendering.
Enjoy!
Here's a mirror: http://www.esnips.com/doc/507eb53d-0522 ... psxe1.6-ex
Note: For some reason, it won't let me attach it to this post. So please use the mirror for now.

Hiya ExProphecy,

Runs a treat.puppy 4.12 and puppy 2.12..had to get the non hardware 3d driver (pete's) for my setups.
This is 1.6 but some games need the 1.7 which is only available for windows but this runs ok in wine..indeed the frame limiter works and was happy with the gpu driver. Only can run images but cd audio works if run from the ccd file. Making images is a doddle using cdrdao by the way.
The family say a big 'thanks'

Is there a place where I can get xbox 360 wired controller drivers for puppy linux? Its the only pc compatible controller I have besides a joystick to use with the emulator. Its not nearly as fun when you have to use the keyboard.
Can I use wine and install the windows xp driver? Could that work?
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 83&t=32803
In this thread pizzasgood said to use these 2 commands for a gamepad:
modprobe analog
modprobe joydev
Do I type them into the console and press enter?
I tried that and nothing happened.
UPDATE: switched to pSX and got it all working

If it doesn't require special drivers to work, it should. I can't recall if PS3 or XBox360 controllers will work straight (USB plugs) in Linux, and don't know if any of those adapters that let you connect a game system controller to the PC (anything from an SNES controller on up) will work under Linux - but in theory, it should.
Of course, you can always get a cheap PS2/3 controller clone. Logitech makes some (I bought one without the analog sticks, though... )

thanks for the input...logitec seem to get a general thumbs up.
In my head a gamepad on usb would simply be an extension of the keyboard and could be mapped as such...Is this a fair assesment?
Is something such as
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000 ... d_i=468294
basically generic.
I pose the question beacause most info is windows orientated as usual

It looks largely generic, but I can't speak for the quality (I don't really know the brand, and I try to actually hold the controller and use it before judging).
As for whether you can map the buttons - that would depend on the emulator, primarily. Most should let you at least map the buttons of the original controller onto your gamepad. Whether or not they'll let you map other additional buttons to things the emulator normally has you do with the keyboard... that's a different story.
Under Windows, you could still easily map keyboard presses to the gamepad using a program like XPadder. I don't know if there's an equivalent/similar app for Linux, unfortunately.

Hmm well the reviews are good for that in particular with only comments on keymapping.
I believe keymapping is possible and not too hard with X due to its nature but I've never done it.(learning curve approaching) ... if a gamepad appears as a keyboard it should be no problem.
You mention ps2/3 clone....is there a difference in the connection/setup?

As far as I know, most controllers should not appear to the system as a keyboard, but as a separate game controller/input device.
The reason I call the controllers 'PS2/3 clones' is because those particular controllers are basically copies of the Playstation controller, for the most part. Most PC controllers you'll find, these days, will probably have a USB connection, so as long as you have a USB port available, there should be no problem (unless it's a 'special' controller like a PS3 or XBox360 controller - then, there might be some problems. I'll have to get around to grabbing one of the PS3 controllers in the house and see if there's any problem getting Puppy to recognize it).

I sucked it...well them really (2 pads on one usb) and all that was needed was
modprobe usbhid
modbrobe joydev
analog was mentioned but having done the above the pads were detected and active. I was able to setup in epsxe external pad config and also epsxe with wine but either were not running for some other reason..grrrr.
Regardless I tried the pad(s) with the excellent ysflight simulator and had the joy(stick) of flying with the analog controls.
So the short answer is no problem on linux using usb gamepads assuming the game supports joystick inputs
