Latest Bluetooth with Gui Wizard and Applet

#1 Post by jemimah »

This is out of date. Go here instead:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=52973

I've managed rip the Gnome out of bluez-gnome. This is very experimental but works ok on my machine so let me know how you fare with it.

Install dbus first, then the other pets.

The bluetooth-wizard will crash if you try to run it without a bluetooth adapter or if your adapter is disabled in the bios.

The bluez-gnome pet puts a script called bluetooth in /root/Startup. If you don't want bluetooth to automatically start, move the script somewhere else.

Edit 1/09/10: updated bluez-gnome pet and removed obexd pet. Obex transfer from remote devices should now work. Sending to remote devices from Puppy still doesn't work. Files appear in /root/bluetooth-share. Also place any files you want to retrieve on a remote device in /root/bluetooth-share.

1/10/10 fixed possible problem with bluez-gnome pet

Hi, jemimah,

Looks very good. I already have bluetooth working with my E90, so will try your pets/gui when fluppy comes (can't wait for that kernel :) )

For your Nokia, I assume you've tried the bluetooth browser:

obexftp-frontend-0.6.6-bin.pet

at:

http://dotpups.de/puppy4/dotpups/Network/

Works like a charm, once things are installed/paired/etc.

The nokia is not mine, the scan picked it up from a coworkers desk. I've been force-upgraded to the iphone has pitiful bluetooth support. :(

I will check that obex pet. It's probably better than the gnome obex gui. The gnoem obex browser depends on Nautilus, so it'd be sweet to have an alternative.

I did not know that the Iphone had cranky bluetooth. The file-browsing pet I recommend does well by both my Nokia 9300 and E90, and if I'm not mistaken, is for Nokia only.

I installed all six pets plus the GUI to Puppy Linux 4.0.

I've got a menu option for Network/OBEXFTP front end and System/system status and config/Bluetooth wizard, analyzer, properties, and send to.

Clicking on any of the options does nothing, near as I can tell.

Please help.

I'm trying to use an AZIO USB bluetooth adapter to talk to a Samsung a900 "Blade" phone...

I've only tested this on 4.3 and bluetooth is fairly complex so you'll have to bear with me. It's probable that it won't even work at all on 4.0.

First make sure bluetooth is not disabled in your bios, and that the kernel module 'btusb' has loaded. Check that dbus-daemon has started and that bluetoothd has started. Then run bluetooth-wizard from the command line and see if it gives you a useful error.

Pri, can you post detailed instructions for how you did that? I looked into compiling gnome-obex-server, but it has too many dependencies. You just copied the binary from Ubuntu and it worked?

i was courius about bluetooth for along time ago on puppy. and instaled an gnome bluetooth. but frustasing and found this page of your.

http://packages.debian.org/lenny/gnome-bluetooth

after instaled all of your bluetooth pet. and in console try to type

then come out a new icon beside bluetooth as in picture.

if nothing wrong when you type on consol then your bluetooth is ready.

Well that's very interesting. It looks like those packages will downgrade you to bluez-3 so you probably don't need my bluez pets at all to use the deb packages like that. When I get time, I'll have to see if I can come up with a lighter obex solution that works. If you start /usr/libexec/obexd manually it seems like it's going to work, but at least on my computer the pairing sequence goes wrong somehow.

You probably only need the dbus package from above. Everything else would be over written by those debs, I think.

Well, ok then. Maybe we can combine all this stuff into one big bluetooth pet. If it seems to work and people don't mind a few MB of libs, maybe this is an easy fix.
