Well I thought it might be helpful if I made a quick reference list to what I understand would be possible changes/inclusions/bug fixes to the next version of 214X. It's based on what's in 214X15.

I found your mupdf-2009-07-07.pet and as I have a load of pdf files I tried it on 214X15.
Running it from the CLI I get | Quote: | | mupdf [-d password] [-z zoom] [-p pagenumber] file.pdf | but making a desktop file I get nada.
I though this was a gui based super fast opener of pdf files.
Am I mistaken?
Help!
Cheers
Dave

Ok thanks I will give it a try. But which of these pets:
alsa-driver-1.0.20-i386.pet
alsa-firmware-1.0.20-i386.pet
alsa-lib-1.0.20-i386.pet
alsa-oss-1.0.17-i386.pet
alsa-plugins-1.0.20-i386.pet
alsa-utils-1.0.20-i386.pet
All of them?
Rgds Mike |
Hi Mike
hmmm looks like Barry only uses 2 of them in a build,
alsa-lib-1.0.20-i386.pet
alsa-utils-1.0.20-i386.pet
so if a newer puppy say 4&5 series works with sound, I would try those 2 pets, but If you don't have sound with any puppy version, I would try them all. combined its around 9MB. but first probably just start with the first 2 alsa-lib-1.0.20-i386.pet, alsa-utils-1.0.20-i386.pet
good-luck
ttuuxxx |
Hi ttuuxxx
Unfortunately nothing worked. Tried installing the 2 mentioned first and re-booted. No sound so installed the remaining 4 and rebooted. No sound. Ran the Alsa wizard. Rebooted still no joy. Basically no sound card is detected (as reported if I try Zmixer). Pity but I think its a Eee specific issue.

Just out of interest for you ttuuxxx.
Saw this on Majorgeeks.
I don't like Firefox myself as I prefer Seamonkey.
" SpeedyFox is a brand new small utility that fixes this problem with a single click! It seems unbelievable but after you optimize your Firefox
with this tool, you will get a fresh newly-installed feel because
the speed indeed gets considerably faster. You will get up 3 times
faster startup speed, browsing history will become faster, and
performing operations with cookies will be quicker than before. "

//////////////////
Whilst I was trying to remember where I came across SpeedyFox
I came across some other bits and pieces.
I know this is Windows but there might be something for Linux.

2. add symlink | Code: | | ln -s /opt/samba/bin/smbspool /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb | <--- already in v15 and also start-up script | Code: | #!/bin/sh
exec /etc/init.d/cups restart <--- already in v15 in the root/startup folder and it works

3. also need to add symlink | Quote: | ensure /etc/init.d and /etc/rc.d/init.d both exist and symlink /etc/rc.d/init.d to /etc/init.d <--- how can I make a system link to /etc/init.d when you say "ensure /etc/init.d and /etc/rc.d/init.d both exist" Its already a folder by the first part of your line, so it can't be a folder and a system link with the same name, I'll just system link it

My personal preference is for 01micko's version now at version 0.20 I believe. That was my point 9 in the list which I guess you haven't go to yet.
| Quote: | <--- how can I make a system link to /etc/init.d when you say "ensure /etc/init.d and /etc/rc.d/init.d both exist" Its already a folder by the first part of your line, so it can't be a folder and a system link with the same name, I'll just system link it

There were several changes you made and also I made to my setup so I was unsure just what was in 214x15 and what wasn't.
So if /etc/init.d already exists then yes please just make the symlink.
| Quote: | 2. add symlink Code:
ln -s /opt/samba/bin/smbspool /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb
<--- already in v15 and also start-up script |
If that's the case then great. Just checking and my notes say that the start menu was in x15 but the link didn't work. I could well be wrong however.

Cheers

Hi Dave I read about Firefox printing not working, So I looked around and found a interesting solution, because I guess its FF3 that has printing issues, so Install this pet and it will give you all the options you'll ever need
I just had to make a small script to make it work with FF:)
included are all the locales that will not be included in the main 2.14X release.

ps could someone test it in Firefox and also do a test page with abiword, I want to make sure it doesn't break anything. Once again I don't have a printer on Linux machines to test it.

When you test the printing the printing pet package above select lpr, That starts the script that loads the program, I replaced lpr with it, So if your print uses or doesn't use lpr it will use the new application instead.
Ps could someone test soon, I would like to make this release tonight and I'll only be up for maybe one more hr, I have to work in the morning real early, well I get up at 5am
ttuuxxx
This is where I got the idea from

I added the 2 partview files and well it doesn't look right.
I used clarfs files from http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=351309#351309
So I won't be changing unless someone finds a fix
I guess I'll have to finish this release tomorrow after work.

This is the change List so far, almost everything on the list posted 2 pages back.
add desktop-menu for TightVNC.
systemlink /etc/rc.d/init.d to /etc/init.d
changed mrxvt for rxvt
if [ "$CHANGE" = "" ];then # MHHP in /usr/local/apps/XkbConfigurationManager/XkbLayoutConfig line 35
I zipped up 2 of 3 of the BMP skins(Default does work as zipped), did really save all that much space, plus it actually might make them larger due to the fact that SFS compression might be less compared in zip format because images compress really well with sfs. But there well complaints so I'll go for it. lol
removed "Reload" or "change folder" from the background setter since it didn't work and really wasn't needed
added PCountdown

Installing gtklp-1.2.7-i386.pet enabled printing from FF, while not breaking already working printing from Abiword (only did a before_and_after test with a simple garbish-text file).
gtklp has a nice interface with some long-missed options .

Hi ttuuxxx, are you sure you updated "ppmtogif" file, this little tool renders the color bars for the used space, it`s not working in 214x then you have to update it from 4.3. I see you already downloaded this file from that post, try copying it directly from 4.3 and please ensure it replace the one in /usr/bin in 214x.
Also test directly this ppmtogif tool from command line.
It works for me, also Dave and others confirmed that, please check that file.
