okay, this is going to be embarrassing correcting a mistake I just did but I went back into the boot manager and the check box for "ignore all listed above and only use the ones with _482.sfs" was checked as default. I unchecked that and rebooted and my sfs loaded with no issue. I hope you haven't spent too much time on trying to figure this out b/c I think thats the issue.
dejan check that setting in the boot manager b/c mine works now.
sorry gposil .

and if I may make one other small suggestion unless anyone objects but I would think the pinboard should be set to medium coarseness in order to align desktop icons.

Ok, 2 things...yes I can confirm that sfs loading is no problem...have loaded devx, kernel source and OpenOffice, and no problem, just make sure you have "ignore all listed above and only use the ones with _482.sfs" un-ticked.
Secondly, sinc, yes medium coarseness will be the default in future...
Cheers
Guy
BTW...the PPM will be getting an overhaul, as soon as Barry has the files ready...this should address the PPM probs everyone, not just dpup is having...next release will also have working APT, Synaptic will only be a pet option.

synaptic error |
|
Hi Gposil,
Kudos to you for all your contribution to the puppy community.
I seem to have a problem with synaptic. The one I downloaded and installed gives the following error:
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (2 No such file or directory)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I recall you saying somewhere that there is an updated synaptic.pet. Can you please point me to the link as I can't seem to find it.
Cheers.

So ignore all has to be un-checked? OK I'll try but that's not how it worked in previous releases...

Porting Openshot video editor to puppy. |
|
Hi Gposil,
Although my fist post about synaptic errors remains unanswered ( I'm sure you haven't seen it yet), I wish to make yet another request to you.
A while back, I tried porting Openshot video editor to puppy but failed miserably. I opened a thread here to solicit help but the general consensus was that it is better to use openshot in say, ubuntu for video editing rather than worry about making it usable in puppy. However, I have a strong believe that it is possible for this video editor to work in puppy. It only needs someone with much knowledge about the inner workings of puppy to do it.
Now, I am throwing this challenge to you because I know you can do it. Indeed, it will be great to have this video editor working in puppy as I am sure many video enthusiasts will welcome it wholeheartedly.
Cheers.

AFAIK an updated Synaptic is not available yet as gposil is still working on package management. Hopefully there will be some improvements in the next release.
HTH.

Hi,
Two questions posed:
1. Synaptic...I am still working on default package database for dpkg and APT, nearly there, but APT/Synaptic will not work correctly till I finish that. Once done I will announce APT/Synaptic for dpup. It will be a two pet release, APT full, and Synaptic add-on.
2. Openshot Video Editor....This is not a real problem, the only concern I have is that Openshot uses a different version of FFmpeg to dpup, and it will involve recompiling FFmpeg to suit Openshot's requirements...not a big deal, just more work...
Apart from the FFmpeg issue, the Openshot dependencies are standard dpup additional dependencies, which I would include in the built pet.
Cheers

openshot video editor |
|
Hi Gposil,
Thanks for your prompt replies to my questions.
Regarding the openshot video editor workability, I am keeping my fingers crossed until I see it within the corridors of puppians. Oh what a great day that it would be!
Cheers.

intel driver crash again |
|
Ok, just had my intel video driver crash again. Incidentally realised that I didn't have any incidents for so long because I had changed my /etc/xorg.conf to the vesa driver, and forgotten to change it back.
The crash showed the same behaviour; sudden blank screen unresponsive to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, do Ctrl-F1 to get prompt, start "xwin", see X mouse pointer and then blank screen again. Only way to get back up was to change driver to vesa in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
I have attached the /tmp/xerrs.log (xerrs.log.old) from the first crash and the /tmp/xerrs.log (xerrs.log.old2) from the restart crash. Also attached my xorg.conf. Can't make head or tail out of the logs but hope it helps you, gposil...

shankargopal,
I have done some investigation into your problem, and have found that the problem you are experiencing is a known problem with Fluxbox and BScreen...Apparently, the only fix so far involves upgrading xorg to 7.5...which is a whole other can of worms....
I wondered why no-one else was having the problem, its because no-one else is running Fluxbox...
I'll do some more investigation.
Cheers

Oh damn. Sorry, it struck me after posting the message that maybe Fluxbox is the problem, but then I thought I had earlier had the same experience with JWM... but most likely not. Apologies for wasting your time when you're already overstretched...
