ttuuxxx, if you do implement file splitting for >56k users, don't forget to add md5 hashes for each component, so they know which parts are good downloads.....if it doesn't re-assemble, there'd be no choice but to start over....

Thanks Aitch I probably wouldn't of done that, lol but I guess its essential, so I'll do it.

As the others have posted, 214 X 15 is pretty solid and working well so I agree there is no big hurry for the next release.

However, if you release something....I'll test it..... Smile

PostPosted: Sun 18 Oct 2009, 03:24    Post subject: EeePC901. I have given up.

I would love to get 214x working on my EeePC901. I had a big session yesterday but have had to give up. I do have 214x15 running nicely on an Acer Aspire 5100 so I think I know what I am doing:

Problems on the Eee are:

- Can't fix the screen resolution to 1024x600 with Xorg so everything looks stretched
-Tried to switch to Xvesa but when X restarted it went into a continuous loop of error type messages (before the desktop appears). Powering off and rebooting got me back to the continuous loop.

-I could have lived withe the screen resolution problem if I could have got WiFi working. Tried everything. No native rt2860sta module so used a pet (for the right kernel) someone posted earlier. Then I fixed the WPA problem by editing wag-profiles.sh. This then got over the WPA problem in the Networkwizard but scanning never found any networks.
- Also tried an Ndidwrapper approach with windows drivers but never got this to work.

Pity as I love 214x15 on my Acer (especially FF).

Thanks ttuuxxx in any case for all your efforts,

Rgds Mike

I'm not too sure on the eeepcxorg.pet I made up, I tried it and xorgwizard wouldn't work, grrrrr, I had to add in 3 locations.
If it doesn't work for you, I'll try something else.

Hey ttuuxxx, just to clarify, for the software archives, are these little pets and things like the eeepc tweaks going to end up in the final version or should I be setting them aside to post as well?

Thanks for this one BTW. My daughter currently has possession of my eeePC but it would be nice to load puppy on it at some point and keep it that way.

Hi Sully

If I was you I would wait until some sort of results/feedback comes back,
I really don't think that the xorg 1024x600 will work, but I have a feeling the driver should. lol
One of these days I think I might buy a eeepc. would make like a lot easier.

Installed your 2008_0918_RT2860_Linux_STA_v1.8.0.0-i386.pet and finally the wireless scan works. Many thanks. But I ran into other problems. I could not get WPA working (even after adding rt2660sta to wag-profiles.sh) Tried manual commands which work fine in 412/431 but no joy. So reverted to WEP. For this again the wizard did not work but a script with the required stuff and put in the Startup folder now works fine.

BTW I had to put modprobe rt2860sta in /etc/rc.d/rc.local for a permanent loading of the module.

Good step forward and many thanks.

Ok tried your eeepcxorg.pet. Installed ok. Ran the Xorg wizard but no joy as just kept dumping me at the # prompt. Tried several time with #xorgwizard but same result. #startx got me back to square 1.

Any futher suggestions for 1024x600?

Rgds Mike

BTW not sure what is in your pet but /root/.packages/eeepcxorg.files only has one line of /usr/sbin/xorgwizard

Thanks for that but at 31MB I'm a bit reluctant to add it unless I know just what this one should do better than/different from the one already in 214X15.

Any help appreciated.

I just updated the rt2860sta driver to the latest v 2.2.0.0 in the
"Extra drivers for Puppy 2 with 2.6.18.1 kernel" thread
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=316239#316239
This driver was compiled with WPA encryption support.
And the wag-profiles.sh file is also updated, so that the rt2860sta driver will be recognised by the Wizard as compatible with WPA.
